Thanks Erin for the reminders

Yes, I agree with your Grandma Marge that you should put the Scheuber Special Days in each month.  I know that school girls can get very busy, but it's great for typing skills.  Thanks for the reminder.  I must get out the old Scheuber calendars designed by your dad.

Dateline:  Modesto, California
Even before the November elections we have a new president.
Former General Manager of Veterinary Service Inc. was recently named President  and CEO of said company.  Congratulations to brother, husband, uncle, father-in-law, dad, or grandpa John R.Scheuber (take your pick) on his promotion.  The word is, he will now have to start working to earn his keep.  Becoming a new grandpa and president all within a few days is quite an accomplishment.  You read it first here in Scheuber News.

A new Scheuber Baby

Sarah and Mike have a new baby girl.  Her name is Taylor Michele (I'm not sure of the spelling)  and she weighs 2lbs and 14 oz.  She was born this morning at 7:27.  Sarah and baby are doing fine.  Taylor will be staying in the hospital until her due date.  Sarah will be able to come home for Riley's 2nd birthday party which is this coming Saturday.  Guess we will be making frequent trips to the hospital to see the wee little one and watch her progress.  Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.    Grandma Marge

Ben's garage sale

All summer Ben has been talking about a business venture.  After many suggestions that I vetoed I finally decided that he could have a garage sale.  He tackled it with great enthusiasm, taking notes, drawing up a plan that included his advertising campaign.  He made flyers on the computer, put an add in the Bee, and to my complete surprise put it on the Internet.  (Just what I wanted, people from all over coming to our garage)  When I read the add in the paper and saw that it was titled BIG SALE, I panicked.  I could just imagine all these people showing up and being dissapointed since it was only toys for sale.  So I had to quickly storm through my closets and cupboards ( John contributed clothes)  to make the sale somewhat inviting as they drove by our place.  The big day finally came and it was an adventure for Ben.  He handled the cash and greeted his customers with a smile and asked them questions such as: " Is there something that you are looking for in particular?"  " Could you tell me how you heard about this sale."  I ironed in the background and chuckled at his adultlike behaviors.

We met a neighbor that bought books from Ben for his children.  His name is something like Nozar Osha (???)  After finding out that his children went to Fatima we talked more about mutual friends.  After finding out that we were Scheuber's he said that he rides horses in a group of females with Alex.  I also met a new teacher from the new school here by us.  She bought books from Ben also.  She said that she is going to teach 4th grade. After she left I remembered that Ashlee has a friend that is going to teach there.  Probably wasn't her though.

Ben considered his sale a success.  Maybe he and Lauren should get together.  Wasn't Lauren selling lemonade this summer?

Sarah update

As of yesterday Sarah was doing much better.  She is now out of the labor room area and upstairs in a regular hospital room.  She has no more contractions and is able to turn on her side now. She seemed depressed last night, but who woudn't be.  She was also upset that the bilingual woman next to her has the tv on the Spanish channel all of the time.  But, she cheered up when Mike brought in Riley to snuggle next to her in bed.  Riley doesn't know what to make of her mom in that strange bed away from home.

Thanks for all your prayers and concerns for Sarah.  Auntie Marge

Prayers for Mike, Sarah and Baby Scheuber

Our prayers are with you, Mike, Sarah and Baby Scheuber.

We have always prayed as a family to St. Gerard, the patron saint of expectant mothers, for healthy babies and safe deliveries for those we know.  We will continue to ask St. Gerard to watch over you Sarah, and the baby, so that you may be able to carry him or her closer to full term.

St. Gerard's feast day is October 16th.

Our love and prayers,
Jeff, Lori and Family

Sarah's in the hospital

We are praying for Sarah and the baby.  Her water broke on Saturday morning.  Her baby is not due until Nov.  She is in Doctor's Hospital and has to stay there until it is born.  She was having contractions but they have stopped.( which is good)  She must lay flat on her back.  They are hoping that by giving her medications to keep the baby growing that she can carry the baby longer.  They are concerned for the development of the lungs.  They are giving steroids for this.  We will keep you informed.   Keep her in your prayers.
Marge

The JR Scheubers trip to Canada

We had a great trip to Canada along with my sister and husband, and her cousin and husband from Blue Lake CA.  We landed in Buffalo, rented a 8 passenger SUV and drove to Belleville (near Toronto) the first night.  We met our Irish cousins there (for the first time) the next morning and visited with them the first day and then followed them for a 7 hour trip the next day to Quebec area.  We met 3 other families of relatives there in Breakeyville.  We stayed in a Bed and Breakfast there  close to the relatives.  They had all six of us over for dinner and then down into their basement playroom where we sang Karoke (sp?) the rest of the evening.  My cousin Lynn has a beautiful voice.  ( She only speaks french but sings beautifully in English) She was thrilled that John sand duets with her.  She said she wished that we could stay longer so he could cut a CD with her.  She was impressed by his doobie doobie do impersonation of Dean Martin.  What a laugh!   We spent the next day driving to Frampton where my ancestors came to from Ireland.  The home of my great great grandfather Moses is still standing.  We were able to tour the inside and get pictures. It is used by a couple who uses it for a summer home.  It still has no running water or electricity. It is situated in a beautiful setting way back in the country hills (it must have reminded them of Ireland ) My sister said she expected Julie Andrews to come over the hill singing, The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Music",but I reminded her that that scene took place in SWITZERLAND . My grandfather Moses was one of 11 children raised there.  7 of those children moved away from Canada to escape the harsh winters and find new land to farm.  We were finally meeting the descendants of the ones who stayed in Canada.  We visited the graves of our ancestors and the Catholic church they attended in the little village of Frampton.  On the way back to Buffalo we spent time in Niagara Falls. John and I had been there about 15 years ago but still marvel at the fantastic sight of those gigantic falls.  We are so glad we decided to take this trip.  We owe the thanks to the cousin who contacted us 3 years ago from Canada as he was searching for relatives to complete the family tree of Jordans.

Bear Bell Bliss

Hello Bryan,

Yes, many of the jokes I heard on the trails were "Dinner Bell" related.  In fact, we went to a chuckwagon dinner and cowboy music show in Jackson and one of the jokes had to do with identifying bear scat: "It smells like pepper spray and has bells in it!"  Luckily for me that joke was heard as our travels pointed us away from Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks!

Our trails were well-traveled, we saw many other people, and we remained alert for any animal activity.  In other words, we took those bears seriously.  But I still contend, ignorance was bliss for me and my Bear Bell!

Sounds like your family vacation was great, too.  One of these years, we'll be back up your way and stop in to visit with you and your family.

Eat the Meet

Hey Bryan...I noticed that the process to kill Elk is much like me and the girls going to Inn & Out Burger down here... we gut, skin, and quarter our meat as fast as possible too! And I thought we were worlds apart.

Grizzelly Bear Uncertaninities

Dear Lori,

Sorry to inform you, but I think you miss read the instructions.  Its not "Bear Bell", its " Bear Dinner Bell".

I pack in 30 miles with my horses and set camp to elk hunt close to where you were hiking.  On occasion I do run into Grizzly bears.  My solution is always keep my gun in the ready and shoot position.

All joking aside.  When you kill your elk you must gut, skin, and quarter your meet as fast as possible because if you look close there will probably be a grizzly wanted to take it from you.  Seriously they are not a joking matter.

Glad you had a great time!! Next time come see us for some great fly fishing.

We just arrived home from our family camping trip in the Bighorns.  Where we enjoyed cowboy cooking in our dutch oven in the campfire.  Teal and Garrett took baths in the creek.  We fly fished some creeks and lakes.  Teal and Bryan did some rafting.  Teal hunted for bear the whole time and was convinced she heard them and saw some signs, but just couldn't find them because her brother made to much noise.  She did  come back to camp with a frog and  some butterflys.

Have a great summer!  Bryan

Grizzly-Free Trail Secrets

Hello Everyone,

Tammy asked me to reveal our family secrets to finding grizzly-free trails in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.  We really don't have any special secrets, though I can offer three suggestions that served us well.

The first is rather obvious.  We have three kids!  Our hikes are never really quiet.

Our second secret is "Jeopardy".  Martin loves the show and always wants to be Alex Tribeck, so we've created our own family version of Jeopardy.  It's kind of like the game we played at Heidi's wedding shower with all sorts of trivia about she and Ted.  In our family, whoever is "Alex" chooses five categories and comes up with the answers.  The rest of us "buzz in" (loudly to scare the bears away) and try to answer correctly.  It's fun because we're always learning something new.  For example, the boys love animals, especially reptiles and amphibians, so there's usually categories relating to that.  Jeff and I pick categories to teach the kids about what we do at work or around the house, when we dated, where we lived, family hobbies, etc.  And Anne, well she usually provides a four sentence answer that tells us everything we'd ever want to know about the questions, and then some!

Finally, the secret I believe was truly key to finding grizzly-free trails: I got a "Bear Bell"!  Jeff and the kids laughed and gave me a bad time but it made me feel better since I'm not really a bear fan!  I've managed to get over my California rattle snake fear and my Oregon poison ivy fear, but the bear fear thing really did a number on me.  I received a lot of knowing smiles, a few joking comments and some inquiries as I jingled down the trails, but I felt secure.  It wasn't until we returned from our last hike, on the last day that we came across a trail sign indicating bear bells were not effective in keeping bears away!!  Oh well, ignorance was bliss and maybe, just maybe, a grizzly steered clear of us when he heard me coming!!

Have a great vacation Bryan and Tammy!  You've got it all in your own backyard.

Lori
