Hello From the Colemans

Hello Everyone!

February finds the Coleman family busy with the normal activities that fill our lives.  Here's a not-so-brief recap of life in Turlock.

Anne is enjoying her freshman year at Turlock High School.  She quickly jumped in with both feet (literally) running with the Cross Country team in the Fall and excelling in her classes.  Anne was named a Scholastic Award winner for the first semester in both Health and Portuguese, the later of which made her Vovo quite proud!  Currently, she's playing soccer on the JV team, which just won first place in a tournament featuring a dozen teams or so from throughout the greater Stanislaus/Merced county area.  Anne's playing a midfield position and her Cross Country experience has truly enhanced her running endurance.  She scored two of the three goals in the championship game against Beyer, which is icing on the cake for her -- she's just so happy to be playing soccer as she loves the game!  Lastly, she's still playing the piano quite nicely and has just begun work on a series of pieces by Schubert -- too bad he didn't spell his name correctly!

Nicolaus, like Ben, is looking forward to turning 13 next month.  We'll have two teenagers in the house, which luckily for us, hasn't been much different than previous years -- just busier!  He recently had four teeth extracted to reduce crowding in his mouth as he prepares to get braces on Ash Wednesday.  Talk about making a sacrifice -- he'll be fasting for a couple of days!  The orthodontist predicts a 2-3 year duration for the braces as he has a number of challenges including overbite, off bite, crowding and protrusion.   Nicolaus just rapped up basketball season with his class team and enjoyed the opportunity to play with his friends.  A runner at heart though, both he and Martin are looking forward to a track clinic they participate in through the City of Turlock.  Jeff has instilled in the kids a love of running which he's encouraging them to pursue, as it's a lifetime sport.

Martin is enjoying school and has been doing quite a bit of report writing this year.  Currently, he's working on one about FDR, as they are now studying the Presidents.  Last spring, Martin began taking piano with Anne's teacher and is doing well.  He's anxious to play some of the pieces he remembers Anne doing and keeps pulling out her old books in anticipation.  Since his favorite show is Jeopardy, he has managed to perfect the right hand of its theme song, so we now know Martin's at the piano when we hear that familiar tune!  He's also working on a presentation for 4H, his first, which teaches his audience how to draw a comic vampire with seven easy steps.  Martin has a love of drawing, especially Peanuts characters, which Grandpa enjoys.  In fact, both are boys love to sketch and draw.

Jeff is in the throws of tax season with farming and partnership deadlines fast approaching!  He has the gift of leaving stress at the office though, which allows him to relax when he's home.  His season will be a bit shorter this year, as we are leaving April 14th for the Grand Canyon, Bryce and Zion National Parks.  It's rare for the end of tax season to coincide with the kid's Easter vacation, so we are planning a week to celebrate Jeff's return to the family!

As for me, I sometimes find I live my life in 15-minute increments, shuttling kids back and forth between practices, meetings, school and the orthodontist!  I wouldn't have it any other way though.  I don't help as much in the classrooms because as the kids get older, there's less need.  I do edit a page of our school newsletter, though, called "Parent-to-Parent" in which families are encouraged to share their parenting ideas.  In my spare time, I serve as one of the leaders of our parish's Womens Bible Study group on Thursday afternoons.  I've really enjoyed the women and I've learned so much.  We're currently doing a 12-week study entitled, "Understanding and Explaining the Catholic Faith".  It's so interesting as we are learning about the origins of the Catholic Church, the Eucharist, the Bible, etc. and how the Protestant faiths differ in their beliefs.

Well, that's the news with us.  Hope you and your families are all doing well!

Lots of love,
Lori

Any more Scheuber news?

Hello out there!  Been a bit quiet on the site lately. Yours truly has been subbing about  one day a week at Perkins School a few blocks away. Wished I had lived that close when I was teaching there.  Glad to hear news from the Blog Chairman in LB.  Hearing about Erin and her busy Freshman schedule boggles my mind that Ben will be there before we know it.  On March 5 he will officially become a teenager.  His dad purchased a stereo system for him and gladly allowed him to house it here at G&G's place. Fortunately there are two doors separating his bedroom from the rest of the house. Besides teaching himself guitar from an instructional CD, taking drum lessons at MJC(short course), choir at school, downloading music on his ipod, and continuing piano lessons one can tell his life seems to be centered around music lately. Must say I am being forced to learn about the latest rock groups. Coldplay, Green Day and Yellowcard??? What kind of names are those???  Of course Cousin Matt(can't believe he is graduating from HS this year) has a great influence on Ben's choice of bands.

Uncle John is still hobbling around, but much better.  He is suppose to wear a brace on his foot, but fails to follow  doctor's orders.. Playing two games of golf while we were in Palm Springs a few weeks ago didn't help much either.

Tonight we went to see the play Copenhagen at the Prospect Theatre.  When we purchased our reserved tickets, the lady asked (Of course) if we were related to David.
When we proudly announced that he was our talented nephew, she looked at Uncle John stating, " You look like him."   I was thinking that it should be "David looks like you"  Suppose it was the ears that gave her a clue?  Unfortunately, David was not in this  3 member play but we hope that he will be starring in another Prospect play in the near future.
Hope all is well out there in Scheuberland!!   Take care.  olemarge

The LBC Checkin' In....

We were MIA for a bit...dang the months fly by, but we're still kicking! Literally, Lauren started Spring Select again so prepare to be bombarded by this over zealous proud papa yappin' about his 11 year old daughter's soccer team. Consider yourself forewarned!

Erin is in the midst of Freshman year and is doing well. Loves the ASB group she's involved with, she is traveling tomorrow to a few of the local Jr. High's to talk about Redondo Union High School's Associated Student Body. Say that 10 times fast. No steady boyfriends or marriage proposal's, yet, so that's good.

Venus is still a hottie. (Am very biased!) Work is work, but she's thriving. We're both anxious to finally see the end of the tunnel on our landscaping project in the backyard.

Glad you liked the Christmas card, yes...mostly a combo of immediate family on both sides with a few select guest stars. Glad to see all the chatter on here too!

Jeff D, we've got October 7th locked and loaded, we can't wait!

More later,

Geoff

Scheuber last seen in 1982

What a surprise when I came across this picture with the name Markus Scheuber from Switzerland!   I had to get out our photo album to compare the pictures.  John & I agree it is the same profile - round- faced, same haircut and contagious smile that we remember while seeing him at Rotzberg sitting on a skateboard riding down the roadway.  A friendly little 5 year old at the time with a yearning to be a monk when he grew up.  As we find out from google search, he is a general manager for Sulzer Chemtech.  He must be a bright young man for he has won awards for his research and inventions on molding injections.  Also see that he has a USA patent pending.  We have his email and John promises to send him a note.

Isn't it amazing that we have such talented Scheuber offsprings!!!  Always keeping our life interesting.   Saw that darling picture of Teal today.  Proud Grandpa brought it by.  Looks like Aja is going to keep up her awesome athlectic talents for 2006. olemarge

''AJA SCHEUBER''----( a grandma can do this????---I did it)!!!

Coming back strong - Published 02/04/06
Turnover is the constant that every sports team at Merced College has to deal with. Only having players for two seasons can create a dilemma of filling holes on a yearly basis.

It's Karyn's Birthday!

Hi Everyone!

Just thought you'd like to know it's Karyn's birthday today ... nothing special, it doesn't end in a zero or a five!  Happy Birthday Karyn!

Lots of love,
Lori

The wedding planning begins!

What a great family blog!  A big thanks to all of the aunts, uncles and cousins for keeping us up to date with all of the goings on!  Also, April and I would like to thank everyone for the recent congratulatory notes.  April has begun planning our wedding with the purchase of a bunch of bridal magazines and visits to several bridal boutiques - I have contributed with a series of enthusiastic head-nods.  Soon we’ll be sending out official “save the date” notices, October 7th will most likely be the big day!  Thanks again Geoff!  Jeff D.
