Even More Family Connections!

Hello All,

Auntie Marge shared with everyone our fun night at the United Samaritans Foundation dinner making family connections.

To add yet another family twist, when we ran into their neighbors, the Zeppas, we had been visiting with Bob and Anne (Van Nes) Forester.  Bob knew Dr. Zeppa, as they’re in the same line of work, and proceeded to tell him how Anne, who knows Mrs. Zeppa quite well, is Jeff’s first cousin!  Believe me, with all of these family relationships being bantered about, we just kept laughing and shaking our heads!  I think these Bay Area transplants really got a taste of our tight-knit valley!!

Love to all,

Lori

Newsy notes in November

Belated birthday wishes to Uncle Leo and Heidi who share November 24th as their birth date.  Hope all had a Happy Thanksgiving.  Our family welcomed into our home two men from China who do business with  John at VSI.  Alex, who speaks good English, and Mr. Wang, who only speaks Cantonese. Alex is proud to announce they he speaks both Cantonese and Mandarin. They were quite entertained when Ben pulled up a site on the Internet that teaches Chinese phrases.  When Mike, Sarah and family arrived she impressed them with her Chinese phrases that she had learned while in China several years ago.  Alex was surprised when we told him that we have some Chinese Scheubers in the family.  Now that Sarah is working in the same department as Jamie, maybe she can learn more Chinese.

On November 18th John and I attended the United Samaritans Fundraiser Dinner at  Sky Trek Aviation. Can't seem to get away from SCHEUBER connections.  We found out that LORI & JEFF know the Zeppa's our neighbors who were there. (Ben plays with the Zeppa boys)   They in turn realized that we were related to the DUARTES.  They know ALEX & JOHN . Then when we sit down at the COLEMAN table, a young couple sits next to us.  He introduced himself to us as BRENT BURNSIDE, owner of Burnside Body Shop.  When he found out we were Scheubers, he asked if we were related to MIKE SCHEUBER who went to Downey High.  He infomed us that he and MIKE are longtime buddies & he was in MIKE and ASHLEE'S wedding.  So enjoyed visiting with them and reminiscing about MIKE & ASHLEES'S wedding.

Sydney's birthday

I know I am getting old and forgetful when I didn't mention my granddaughter Sydney's birthday.  She was 6 yrs old on November 6th.  We celebrated her birthday last Sunday at her house.  She had a Cowgirl Birthday party. As we came to the front door, there was a large poster with her picture in the center and the words:  WANTED -  SYDNEY PEFFERMAN for 6 yrs of mischievousness.  She danced on the PEFFERMAN STAGE having  choreographed her hyped up version of Boot Scooting Boogie. Her party planner mom fed all us hungry cowpokes a fireside meal of: dawgs,(barbequed by Dad)  beans, fried potatoes and other vittles.  Well, the other Grandma is a little forgetful also.  She gave her a birthday card that said, "Happy 7th Birthday!

birthdays in November

Just came across the 1995 Scheuber calendar.  Wow!  Lots of birthdays in November.  Auntie MaryJane, Auntie Fran, Cousin Dave, Cousin Sharon, Cousin Lori, Cousin Heidi, Uncle Leo, Cousin Stephanie, and Uncle Bill.  Surely must be some more added since 1995.    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU ALL!!!!

Traveling with Children

This seemed compelling enough to forward.  It's a link to a video by a mother whose 3-year old was killed in a car accident because he was in a booster seat and not in a 5-point harness LATCH seat (which is the safest way for kids to travel in the car).  Apparently his seatbelt was faulty and without a backup system (as there is in the LATCH system), he was killed.  There is information in the link to the right of the video with information on where to get the car seats this mother recommends.

Wishing you all safe travels, especially during the upcoming holiday season.

Veterans' Day Post

A special thank you to the one who posted the Veterans' Day Honor post.  It so touched me to see this since just 2 weeks ago Ben and I met with my only surviving uncle to video tape him about his life growing up here in Modesto on McHenry Ave(site of now Tropics Motel)  with his mom & dad and his 7 siblings.(one being my dad)  As he reached the point in his life story of being 18 years old  and signing up for the marines, I was unsure what he would reveal for he never wanted to tell of his battles in Guam, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima.  He proceeded to tell of the horrific 36 days of battle on Iwo Jima where he saw his buddies blown to pieces and  other bodies buried in trenches, fighting day and night without enough food, sleep or places to take cover, and fearing that he would never come home again.  The tears flowed from his eyes as did from Ben and mine.  At this time in our interview we decided after 1 1/2 hr of videotaping that we would give this 84 yr old a rest and return another time. We truly need to honor our vets for risking or giving their lives for us here in the USA.  olemarge
