Thanks for Giving

Mike with the Marines; Brent, Cousin Thomas, & Alec

"Controlled Chaos" best describes the hour or so leading up to the point when we all finally sit down around the table for Thanksgiving in Long Beach. But it's one of my favorite times of the year and its really fun watching it all fall together! Everything is large...from Turkey to the guest list, more is just more! Mom and Dad are usuals, and this year we got lucky with Mike and Ashlee down as well. We had other close friends and whomever just needed a place to go. Also my cousin Thomas (the Marine and oldest son of Uncle Bill James in Alaska) was up from Camp Pendleton. He brought a buddy and another at the last minute...yep Casa De Long Beach was full!

The food was all well and good, Mom's apple pies were stellar as always, but the biggest impression on me was made by our three Marines: Brent, Thomas and Alec. Here we all were listening to these three carry on about their adventures...Brent pining over missing Thanksgiving in Detroit...Thomas at home away from home and Alec just back from Fallujah. Alec told of how it wasn't fair that he was here sharing this meal while his friends were all back in Iraq. So young these guys are...yet so fully committed to what they'd signed up for. Alec is scheduled to go back.

The reality of that didn't quite sink in until well after they'd gone.

Thank you, Father Nature!

What a lovely trip into the foothills of color and the detailed description of the lives and deaths of the little creatures that make their homes in our soil.  You are commended for a excellent choice of subject matter and we promise to study hard for the upcoming exam.

Uncle Bill, as Marge and I were having breakfast on our way home from Long Beach yesterday I looked out the window of the restaurant.  There to my surprise I noticed a New Holland manure spreader on a trailer. I said to Marge, "that manure spreader reminds me that I haven't responded to Beel's last essay regarding his favorite pass time."  Then when I get home and turn on the computer I notice this Mother Nature story and could not get myself to write down my response to your "other subject" that I had mulled over while diving some 300 plus miles.  Darn, and I had such a good response to your comment about my finger in an aspirin bottle (where at least it was dry when I removed it), but I will refrain from saying anything about that.  Also was going ask you to look at me as an ally rather than an "apponant" (or was that "opponent") .........but by now I'm sure you realize I am an ally.

Sure liked that ant story, and must say it sounded familiar.   Who was it?  Joe Delucci????????

The little things

There are so many things that are happening around us each day  that we are neglect to enjoy . Let me take you away from the hussle and bussle of it all, and drive you to a quiet spot in the hills where the grass is green and the light breeze is softly blowing on your face as we depart the car on a country road, climb theough a wire fence tha is rusted  over time without notice, We are going to notice  the barbs and the twist of the two wires and the way it was fastend to the aging post that is also showing some rinkels and may be an old looking knot hole. We may also notice that a bird has landed there a few times and left some white streaks down the side . This is all pure nature.  As we lift on one wire while pushing down on the other with our foot to let who or whom others have taken this little journy with us today, to pass through the space with out catching thier shirt or sweater, on a barb.  We are now ready to transgress through the grassy field, riasing to the top of the hill. Having reached the top, with our lungs pumping a little more air tha normal, wecan look around us and notice that we can see a larger land scape than we could in the city. First we notice the light blue sky with the soft clouds that are floating happily in space without any rush or ajenda. So peaceful and calm. This brings us closer to nature . We now will find a comfortable spot, preferably in the boosum of two smaller hills. This will give us the privacy to lay down in the multi colored green grass. We are now begining to get away from it all, and enjoy the warm sun that is doing a number of things , we are not yet aware of. The sun is of coarse, is warming us from the light breeze. It of coarse is doin g much more. The sun is providing ultra violet rays that are so important to the growth of the grass. did you notice that thegrass has many hues of green? Yes ther are very light, all most white to medium to dark.   ther may be som beige to darker browns from the old gras that were once greea and now are providing a seed bed , so to speek for thier young. The older dried gras ha produced the seed from which the new grass is growing. ther are also intermediate hues of green, simply because the breeze is makeing the small blades of grass move slightly, there by casting shadows on one another as they catch the sun, or blocking the sun. This too can create interest if one takes the time to observe.  Now as we continue our journy deeper to the ground from which the grass is growing, We find little grains of soil. Each grain in its self is part of the whole, which in turn becomes the earth. Also known as mother earth. Mother earth, is a  mother to many things seen and unseen. It is impotant to know that we can not see many exciting things with naked eye, There for it is necessary to bring a magnifying glass on a field trip like this.  We are only on a fact finding trip this time so we will save that part of the lecture for anothe time when we need to slow our life down a bit. So, we have gotten down to mother earth. Now we must get to living things. As we look down into the grass amongst the grains of earth, we find movement.  Takeing a closer look, we find ants. Ants are a very important part of the whole universe. Watch closely and you will see them as industrial and busy. We learn a lot from ther ability to construst thier domisiles, bridges, and many other things like road building. As we watch we see how they send out a scout ant to find food. The ant will hurry around going different directions ,maybe a step or two to the left the again to the left and striaght for few inches, then right, then left and left again, maybe a quick stop, and right again.  This patteron may go on for some time. When he hits pay dirt he stick two fingers in his mouth and whistle to one of worker ants and he in turn will pass on the word to rest of the workers. Soon a army of ants will arrive in a well disiplined line ,and begin to carry the goodies back to the Queen, Who will decide how it will be stored, and how much can be eaten for that days meal.
Have you ever seen an ant funeral? Yes they do die. Many die, becaue we are unaware and step on them. The ants are also victems of terrists spraying poison gas. You see, they have some of the same things we have to worry about in daily life.  The ant funeral is similar to a people funeral. The funeral starts with a gatheing of the community. It looks as though there are some words spoken about wahat a good hard worker he was,and what a good provider he was. This is just an assumtion beacause they don`t use P.A.systems I had to guess what was said, but it did look very solem. The next thing was the procession. The pall beaers would carry the body a short distance then lay it down and  all the ants would cry for a few minutes, then dry thier tears, and the body would be picked up again and be move perhaps a foot in people measure, and go through the same routine again. This seems to depend on how far the berial grounds where from where the ant died. Once he is carefuly bearied, the small littl eants would carry pieces of leaves, that looked almost too large to carry, and placed them on the grave. The next time you see an ant carrying a big piece of leaf you will know a funeral is taking place.
As the sun is begining drop lower into the sky, we must gather our thoughts, and what we have learned today we bid farewell to our new friends and find our way down the hill, get through the wire fence, and into the car for our ride back to reality..  Next time we will bring a magnifying glass and get into more detail of what our world is all about.  By the way there will be a test!             Uncle Bill

Rodeo Spectators

Hello Lori,

The NFR is the Super-bowl of Rodeo!  Its the best of the best, just a little out of our league.   I have a few friends which I use to rodeo with in high school that made it and do well in the PRCA; we go to watch them, and visit with their families.  We also go to relax, and see the Cowboy Christmas and Country Christmas show.  Mom would be proud of me because it is the only time I like to shop and it satisfies my craving for a couple of years.

Mom/Nona is wonderful at helping us find special things that cannot be found in Wyoming.  I don't know what we would do without her, she is the greatest!!!

Have a wonderful day!  Tammy

Rodeo Participants or Spectators?

Hello Bryan and Tammy!

Our best Thanksgiving wishes to you, too!

Some very good friends of ours attend the National Finals Rodeo each year and will be there in Las Vegas enjoying the show.  Since I'm not familiar with this level of competition, I hope this isn't a dumb question: Are you participating in the rodeo or just being spectators?  If you are in the rodeo, I'd love to send them your way.

I ran into your mom last week at Macys and she sang the praises of your children!  I heard all about the Polish Christmas traditions Teal will enjoy for St. Nicholas Day and the wonderful little chocolate angels she found at Cost Plus.  She was pretty excited to have helped with the celebration from such a great distance!

Lots of love,
Lori

Welcome Big Horn

Hi there Wyoming Scheubers!

Good to hear from you and to know that you're "Uptown - Saturday Nite" now!  Home delivery would be great for you especially when you have cold winter weather.  Thank you so much for the new address and glad to hear that you're on your way to the National Rodeo Finals.  We wish you well and I hope that Teal gets to go on the "Ride" on the Escalator and has a ball.  I think that it's great that there is still the element of surprise and awe with children.  That's what it's really all about.

Much Love,
Uncle Ernie and Auntie Mary Jane

Wyoming Scheubers

Hello Everyone!

Hope everyone had a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving!

Mom suggested we post our new address:

PO Box 684
Big Horn, WY 82833

After ten years of living in Big Horn we recieved a Post Office. Yeah! So we decided to move our address to Big Horn..  Next home delivery!

We are gearing up to leave to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas next Sunday.  Teal is excited to see the big show.  If anyone is near we are staying at the Circus Circus till Saturday morning.  Teal thinks Circus Circus is the greatest, because they have these rides that look like steps and move up and down.  (We really live out in the woods when your children have never seen escalators and think they are rides.)

Have a great weekend and watch out for those chritmas shoppers!   Tammy

DearJury

Thinking it is time to bring up the real piece of farm equipment that would fit the respone We are hearing about, beause there is no one wants to admit that they too enjoy the pleasures of picking there nose. Let me introduce you to the manure spredder. This seems to be the only one that could handle all the stuff I`m getting to cover up all the evidence of ones reluctance to stick to the subject at hand, and I direct you to the fact, that is irrelevent to the case[. Not the tractor]  I will prove to you that you may, find my apponant at a point  where he has his fingure in his asprin bottle probing to pull a pain pill, promptly plying to painfully ponding pea brained pointed  head. Once he gets his fingure out of his asprin bottle he may come to his sences and respond to the original request.  By doing so we can then get rid of the manure spreader and get on with the case.[ not the tractor]   Now that we got that wagon loaded , we will see what kind of stuff  we will have to haul off next.   Have at it! ,I have alredy ordered a large Garbage truck  For the rest of you Lets.get out of the closet, and tell us your private pleasures.

Rebutal Time......

Uncle Bill, your request for a response to a simple question didn't have any takers for the simple reason that no one has more expertise on the subject than you.  Who would dare argue or debate your favorite subject matter?  Enough said.

Now for a subject that you obviously know little or nothing about.  That would be the experience working on a baler of a previous correspondent.  The person in question was in demand from three different baler operators to the point that  employment requests had to be turned down because of previous commitments to other operators.  It was no surprise to hear your reaction to the brand name of Case.  Had you forgotten that the Case Baler was the hay machine of the time?  One remembers these thing from the experience of many "early morning"  hours of poking and tying wires, or navigating the baler behind the tractor.  If walking by a baler one time would entrench the brand name in your mind forever you would have remembered the Case.  You mentioned the Johnnie Popper pulling the baler.  Well, we all know that there were a few John Deeres around in those days but not as prevalent as the Farmall.  No knowledgeable farmer would purchase a tractor on the basis of the engine sound or the rhythm of sound with the equipment being pulled.

"Dew" you really think your explanation of the dew forming on the hay will be bought by the jury.  You sound like Geragos trying to make his point and I think you know the situation his client is in.
Granted, you did make one accurate statement.  "A good farmer would merely bend over, grab a hand full hay and make a distion to bale or not to bale."  (hopefully you meant "decision")

Basically your entire story sounds like it was fabricated by a person marooned on a lighthouse for a period of time.  In case you are not aware of the how one can be affected by this type of isolation, allow a sea going Coast Guardsman to inform you.   During a lengthy tour of duty aboard ship, this
Guardsman had the experience of dropping replacement personnel at numerous lighthouses in the far north.  When the replacement was dropped off the general procedure was to pick up the person who was being replaced.  Please be informed that these guys having been in isolated duty were strange.  This critic could be wrong...........maybe they were that way even before isolated duty.

Been nice keeping you and the younger generation informed.  One last thought,,,,,,,,,,,,That wire that you squeezed down with a pliers............are you sure that it isn't still in your ear?

Thinking I had asked for a response to a simple question about the habits of others picking thier nose, I ,in return, receive a littony of how a certin person had a one time expirence of bailing hay, even to theminute detail of what name brand of bailer he walked by one day. The case bailer was most probubly was being pulled by a "Johnie Popper" A "Johnnie Popper" would be aproriate because the rythum of the of the pops provided perfect pronounced pops to contrast the intermediate Poof poof poof  Pop patteron , pulling proper pronouced plunging pushes of the perpendicurlar plunging  Chinaman.this, of course, was true withe older model Bailer that younger people would not recolect. Having to wait for the proper dew level was also a bone of contention.  Curcumstances are cercumstances, because of the different time of year that one may have to bale. Late spring or early fall may not be as dry as mid summer. It doesn`t take a scientist to comprihend this, but let me help you out.  When the barometric pressure drops, and the ambiant temperatue flukxuates with moving air; [wind for those not privy to the extreme sicentific imformation] the realative humidity, derived from the moister in the ground, depending when the ground was last irrigated tied to the  grains of water in a pound of air  wil l bring you to the dew point. There for the dew forms on the hay, letting one to comence to bail. Of course, who had a Baromitor or even knew what that was. A good farmer would merely bend over, grab a hand full of hay and make the disition to bale or not to bale.
Back to the original subject.  I got a lot of comments about the bad side of picking ones nose, but no one wants to comment on thier personsal pleasures of all the private enjoyment they have had over thier life time.. Come on . Lets hear it.
By the way ,I use to use a pair of pliers to squeese dowm the loop end of the bale wire so I could use it to klean the wax out of my ears.     Uncle Bill

"LET'S DO IT"

Ah yeah, I can feel a campaign beginning to take hold.  What a way to thank Santa for his many years of showing up early Christmas eve when he should be beginning to make his annual round.  One cause of his congestion could be the black soot from the many chimneys he has had to squeeze through. ( and I do mean squeeze through)   Once again, "LET'S DO IT.

Oleo Marge..........you may want to send a message to Heidi with a request for five more grandkids.  How about Euphemia, Ursula, Bernadette, Evangeline, and Rowena.  Just a thought!!!!!!!

Cousin Bill, we'll be at Aja's Game / Feb 12-13

Bill, we won't know if Lauren has games that weekend for awhile. If we're playing in February, yes you should try to watch her play, that'll mean her team has made it to Regionals. A long shot, but possible. Otherwise, we'll definetly be at Aja's games. That will be great!!

Geoff

PS: Welcome in Eliza Rose! Congrats Modesto VICE team leaders.

Hello Elizabeth!!!

Congratulations to the Duarte Family.  We are looking forward to meeting Elizabeth Rose Duarte, hopefully Christmas Eve.  Am not sure the neighbors will approve of the VICE SQUAD arriving at our door.  (Leave it to a Scheuber to come up with an acronym)  Just when you feel sorry for Anita having to put up with her brothers' sometimes ridiculous humor, she injects some of her own.  Now if Heidi was willing to have 5 more kids she could spell out Scheuber.  She already has SCH   Sydney, Callie, and Haley.

Must call Santa to see if he can make it on Christmas Eve.  As it looks now he may be too occupied with his recent revealing of a favorite pastime.  He has been so gracious to bestow his presence for years at all of our Christmas Eves that we should come up with some way to repay him.  Yes, I know all of you out there have an idea of what we must get this poor jolly old man.

As Uncle Leo requested.  LETS DO IT!!!!

Hey, "Troubled in Turlock", what can I say..........He's your father! I do
want to thank you for coming to the rescue of us poor soles that enjoy
reading the Scheuber News. Some of those "corn-pone" stories were somewhat
humorous (but not always factual). But this????? I therefore announce the
campaign of the year................"THE UNCLE BILL CHRISTMAS GIFT DRIVE"
Each relative (at least those who will admit they're his relative) shall
contribute one gift wrapped box of KLEENEX to be presented at any Christmas
Eve gathering where said person will be in attendance. LET'S DO IT!!!!!!!!

Attention Geoff, we will be in your neighborhood in February

Geoff;   Aja and her Merced Junior College Softball team are scheduled for a tournament in Cypress, Calif. (about 15 miles from you) in February 2005.  Saturday and Sunday February 12th and 13th probably at Cypress City College and the game times are Sat. 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm and Sun. 11:00 am and 1:00 pm If Lauren doesn't have soccer games it would be great to sit with you guys at Aja's games. And If Lauren has games, depending on game times, maybe we could watch both sports. I would love to watch her play.
I will keep you posted as we get closer to February.

Swissriegel apologizes for old timers' dementia

I think the old man has finally lost it,  he is after all going to be 73 at the end of the month. But to transgress from corn-pone humor, storytelling and reminiscing into offering olfactory hygiene tips worries even me.  But what is even more troubling is the mystery surrounding all those restaurant napkin "Picasso's".  I know for a fact that he used ketchup for red and mustard for yellow, but I am starting to wonder what non-acrylic substance he has been using for all the browns and greens on those napkin based rural scenes all these years.  Hey Mom, please tell the old man the wonderful powers of Kleenex.

Christmas

Long Beach Scheubers are in (all 4 of us) for Christmas Eve at Uncle John & Auntie Marge's. Can't wait to see the new house!

Geoff

PS: Dad, Uncle Bill could have been picking his nose while reading your last note....I was.

People with very little to do

Thinking to have some fun one day I pointed the computer arrow to Scheuber News, only to find that some people have so very, very little to do that they could either sit around all day picking their nose or indulge in the activity of writing about same.  It appears that one could only be so explicate and detailed about such activity if said person had practiced this activity for numerous hours on end and found an enormous amount of self satisfaction.

As one that has spent at least as many, if not more, hours working on a bailer as the editor of the N. P. essay, I can only say that bailing hay does not occur all night and the implication of dust may cause the nostrils to be filled with muck is invalid.  My experience working on a Case bailer (two wire) in any of three positions ( driver, wire poker, or wire tier) tells me that in no way does one bail hay all night.  Hay is bailed in the early mornings and only when there is ample dew to prevent the hay from becoming brittle causing the leave to fall off the stems and the hay to become worthless as cattle feed.  Yes, if one bailed hay all night it could get dusty, but an efficient and knowledgeable bailing crew would never jeopardize the hay crop by attempting to perform this function other than early morning when the dew has set.  During the haying sesason in the San Joaquin Valley (summer months) the dew arrives early to late mortning.  More than once have I experienced arriving at the field to start bailing at around 2:00 AM only to find there was not adequate dew, then waiting an hour or two before we could start.

Thanks for allowing me to express my views on your latest verbage.  If I have done nothing else, I have kept you from picking your nose, at least for the amount of time it took you to read this.

Good night, Beel!!!!!!

Distasteful Reason for N P

Yes, as my mother always said:   "If you pick your nose, you may get worms."  Then you will be picking someplace else. That is reason # 1.  Any more reasons out there?  Yikes, next we'll be discussing flatulence.

Great brainstorm suggestions on the Dollar Family from Uncle Leo.    Don't think there is any "womb for improvement"  on those clever names.

Heidi has a great Scheuber coincidence story - if she will get on here and tell it. Maybe she can nurse and type at the same time.

I knew I could count on our family to help the Dollars with their possible need for baby names!  I'll be sure to keep you posted if your suggestions provide any future inspiration.

Speaking of babies, the Coleman family sends their congratulations to John and Alex and family on the birth of Elizabeth.  We wish you all the best.

Glad this thing's back on!

Wow, I didn't realize the impact of the posting problems! I'm sitting here with Venus, she's watching some show on TV, and I'm clicking away on the laptop laughing out loud reading through the latest here. From snot to a brand new cousin! Who could ask for more?

Geoff

Welcome in Elizabeth Duarte! (Can someone pass along the details?) Can't wait to meet her!

Thinking about what people do that some times are not the thing you would bring up in an every day conversation, but yet enjoy in the privacy of thier own being.Ther ,f course are many, but today we will explore the some time frustrating , and sometime enjoyable, and some time even a feeling of  accomplishment. As days go some are better than others. We some time let small things bother us when it really it is a nothing  type of thing , action ,or an occurance that should be taken in stride with little thought or surcomstance. These things some people look down on are , maybe a great pleasure to another. The thing that has been going through my mind , as I am typing this bit of nonsence.I ask the question do you think there is any real distasteful, or perhaps unclean reason why one should not pick his or her nose. As for me, I feel that at times it is necessary, and even comforting, know that you have a clean nose. It helps one breath better, and some times even cuts down on the noise of the air that is trying to pass through your nose on the way to your lungs. This , of course only happens when you have a real heavy load built up under extreme  conditions, like if you were bailing hay all night and didn`t have a chance to keep your nose holes as clean as one would like in a less extreme situation. There  are those out there that did not have the oppertunity in life to expirence this  type of work , so they would most certanly not be critized for not understanding the need for first of all just putting you thumb against one nostril and forcing a healthy blast of air through one side of your nose at a greater rate of volume and speed, forcing the unwanted built up matierial to be forced from it`s moorings, so to speak,.  what do you think would happen if all thi residue were left to harden by just plain every day breathing.  Of course you know that the build up would eventually cause some discomfort.  This of course is where the nose picking comes in , which is why one can feel proud of what sucess one might have with the first pick. The one that really makes you feel good , is when your finger nail is just the right length to get ahold of thr pesky little piece that is stuck up in the deepest corner of the nostril. When one retrieves that little bugger, it`s almost time to celebrate.  I am sure that there are other cercumstances, other than bailing hay that would cause the same type of extreme nose clogging,
I am now opening this topic to others who have had an expirence that might want to express thier feelings on the subject.  Please feel free to let us all know how you handled it ,and give us all a chance to learn from it.  Who knows? We may be able to start a nose picking club. I for one do enjoy picking my nose at the proper time of coarse. Not to be done in public! Please try this at home.
Once again, I ask you to share with us. Do not hasitate!  Please feel free to enjoy!

This is your health lesson for the day.         Uncle Bill

Fw: Posting Errors

Hey Lori, I agree it's nice to have the posting errors taken care of. (thanks Geoff) I was beginning to wonder how many birthdays your mom was having. One could get old very quickly the way things were going. Also, I was wondering how many weddings the Colemans could survive in such a short period of time.

Speaking of the Coleman's wedding and Carrie naming any future kids..........we know "Anita" is out but you may want to pass on some suggestions like......Iwana, Iva, Erna, Lona, and the Welsh have a female name of Haf. Just a thought. However, after thinking about it I came to the conclusion that this couple could have children very reasonably. Where else could you get a" womb for a dollar."

Good Night..........

I hadn't heard about this.  Need to find out the details and pass on to my kids.   If John knew and forgot to tell me I am going to be a little upset with him.  He has so much on his plate he can't seem to remember to tell me important news.

Sounds like  Mary Jane and Ernie had a great time in Hawaii. What a way to celebrate your 65th Mary Jane!   My favorite experience in Lahina was attending mass and being awe-struck at the Hawaiian music used in church. It was beautiful!

Benjamin said he saw you at the  Sugar Plum Faire.  I was so angry with myself for not remembering that.  Hope it was a successful for you and Ernie.  Benjamin was so impressed.  He said,"  Grandma, it was the best Christmas craft show I have ever been to."  That made me feel more depressed for not attending.  It so puts me in the spirit of Christmas.

We took Benjamin to see the musical "Fannie"  and were disappointed at the sets and the acoustics.  Guess we are spoiled from seeing shows on Broadway and San Francisco.   None of the singers had mikes.  We went mainly to hear and see Eric Townsend.  He was Buck Townsend in high school.  (in Anita's class)  His acting and singing is always good.  There were several youngsters singing and dancing which I had hoped would entertain Ben.  He was more interested in watching the conductor .
Maybe that was a good thing since Ben sometimes has a little difficulty in getting his rhythm correct at the piano.  Wants to see how fast he can play.

Good luck at Dr. Hsu's Ernie.  Know that you are ready to have this surgery done as soon as possible.   Aloha !!

Catching Up

Wow, I have not been checking in on any of this since the end of October as we have been gone.

So much has happened! ! ! ! !   Soccer, Golf Tables, GUILTY VERDICTS, Concerts, Rupfs, etc., etc! ! ! !

Talked to Steve tonite and he filled me in that we now have a new great niece - Elizabeth Duarte! ! !   CONGRATULATIONS to John and Alex and of course to the proud grandparents, Jim and Anita! ! !  These girls are really tallying up in the younger generation - I think that they outnumber the guys!  I guess that that's the girly thing to do!  Congratulations to all of these new parents.  We are so happy for them and wish them the best!

Glad to hear that Taylor is home and doing well, at least alot better then grandma - Take care of that rib Marge ! ! !   Good thing you had a great cruise and a wonderful time before the accident!

Carrie and David's wedding was BEAUTIFUL!  Her colors were Cinnamon and Ivory - truly exquisite!  It was a fun, fun Dutch Wedding!

You Soccer and Soft Ball girls are really doing GREAT - Keep up the Great Work! ! !  I really enjoy hearing about all the games.

We have 6 soccer players in our family and they are also doing really well - Nicolaus' team is undefeated and the others are also doing great.  Our Annie is  4.0 and Nicolas is 3.9 - and we are so very, very proud of them - the lower grades don't evaluatethe students like that but they are all doing so very, very well.   8th Grade Annie is playing the piano Beautifully and I am so happy and proud of her.  Megan is also taking piano, is doing so well and loves it too.  As soon as Karyn gets moved out of the COMPARTMENT and back into their home (which I don't think can happen soon enough for them), she plans to get Kathryn started with piano too.  With all of this talent, surely somebody will let me retire!

Speaking of retiring, Lori is after me to retire from the travel business.  I think after Ernie's surgery, I will probably be working from home.  I still really love the contact with people and I truly get excited planning trips for them.  It's the next best thing to traveling there myself! ! !  When I quite enjoying it, I guess that's when I'll hang it up.

When Ernie saw that Rupf name in the paper at the time that Laci was found, he told me that he tought it was the Rupfs from here. Ernie said that Warren Rupf's grandmother delivered him and probably all but Pius as well. This entire ordeal, has brought out so many names and people - it seems that somebody knows somebody thats related to somebody else in this Peterson Case.

Ernie had a booth at the Sugar Plum Faire and one of the gals that I work with called about 11am to tell me that we would have a verdict at 1pm.  WOW, were we ever shocked! ! !  .  A gal from the Church (Big Valley Grace) walked through with the verdict and the reaction was incredible!  There was clapping, cheering and shouting - some had tears of relief.  Well, who would have thought that in only 7hrs and 14 minutes, they would have the verdict - apparently not Garagos. I'm happy for the Rocha family as they can finally put this to rest, however, at the same time I feel badly for the Peterson family (mom, dad and siblings).  One news caster said that the jury could sum up the entire trial in 1 paragraph.  He didn't elaborate, but that was a pretty profound statement.  I have followed this trial daily and read every paper - it's hard to imagine that this happened so close to home (Mike and Jana).  My friend Evelyn even told me that I was obsessed with it, but I was just genuinely interested ! ! !  I think that Marge was just as interested - right Marge??

We got home late Tues. nite from Maui. We went 5 days early to spend some time on our own.   I had a seminar over there (it's a tough job, but somebody has to do it).  Oh yes, we had a great time ! ! !
We were wined and dined royally and loved every minute of it.  We were about 40 travel agents viewing alot of hotels, and condo's - the $8300.00 per nite room at the Four Seasons was not available for us to see as it was occupied!   As Ernie would say, I can't sleep that much! ! !   Hey Leo and John, they have some great Golf Packages with unlimited Golf - you can even pick your Tee Times a full year in advance! !   How's that for planning?

For my birthday, Lori, Karyn, Steve and their families, gave us a delightful night out on the town.  We had the best dinner at  David Pauls in the Lahaina Inn.  They had prearranged it and we had the most delicious seafood dinners! ! ! ! ! ! !   We were both stuffed and said that we would pass on the desert menu, however, the waitress said that out children and grandchildren would not allow us to leave the restaurant without desert - they proceeded to bring us this delightful Sampler plate with Happy Birthday written on the plate with chocolate  - Goodness it was more that we could imagine!  Our children were much too generous - we  wish that they could have been there to have shared this wonderful evening with us!  Thanks again kids! ! ! ! !

I hadn't taken the camera, but the restaurant forwarded the two photos that they took for us.  If you ever have a chance to try this place out in Lahaina, you would definitely like it!  Last year the seminar was in Kauai, and next year it will be in Hawaii (the big island).  They are alot of fun and see places that we would definitely never be able to stay in! ! ! !

Ernie fell in love with the HEAVENLY BEDS at the Hyatt.  I have to agree, they are the most comfortable hotel beds that we have ever experienced!

If you ever need a travel agent, I know alot of great places - something for everybodys budget.

Tomorrow, we're off to SFO to visit Dr. Hsu.  We were disappointed to have received a letter from Workman's Comp the Wednesday before we left for Maui denying Ernie's surgical procedure.  Apparently, they need more info before they will approve it.  We already had this appointment scheduled, so they plan to do more xrays, etc. to further document the need for the fusion and pinning in the up comming surgery. We already celebrated our Thanksgiving on Oct 24th in anticipation of the surgery, but I guess that we'll just have to wait to see what happens.  Hopefully it will be before Christmas, as Ernie is Ready to Get This Show on The Road! ! !

Well, it's time to say goodnight - enough bragging (Uncle Bill said it was okay) and info for this time.

Love you
Auntie Mary Jane

Lightning Strikes Twice

Soccer update. The Blue Lightning racked 2 more victories this weekend...in preparation for next weekend's match with the other undefeated team in the u-10 division. Not alot to report, it was ugly from the outset. Lauren continues to improve, so fun to watch! More later.

Gotta go checkout the scottisinnocent page, thanks Auntie Marge, for the tip!

An ongoing project has got Venus and I completely exhausted. We've been re-storing doors in our house...stripping paint, layers and layers and layers off sloppy gloppy messy paint...yellow, white, yellow, beige, peach...no fun at all. Only 4 more to go! Yuk.

Geoff

Corny backwoods farm community

Geoff, I wish John was here to tell him about the Corny backwoods farm community. He will really take offense. Right now he and your dad are out golfing at Muni. LA times probably doesn't even know that we have 6 golf courses in our area. I remember reading about the 1912 contest in one of the Mchenry Museum magazines I get in the mail. The "Nobody's got Modesto's Goat" reminded me of the time Phillip Gallo and I ran for the school president and vice president offices for the Stunublican party against the Stanocrats at St. Stanislaus School. One of the signs that I made had the slogan "Don't be a goat, Get out and vote for Gallo and Olsen. Unfortunately the Stanocrats won.

Sorry your wireless alert didn't work. I was thinking of doing that myself. Before we went out to dinner on Friday night John reluctantly drove my friend Marianne and I out to the Peterson home where we got out and quietly dodging the tv crew members walked past Mike and Jana's to take a quick peek. Surely they were not happy with all the cars parked around their place. Marianne wanted to see the place she had heard so much about. Unbelievable that 6 tv station trucks were so interested in filming the flowers and balloon display on the front lawn. That area brings back many memories of my childhood: exploring down that path ( shown so many times on tv.) down to the creek to look for arrowheads. Two sets of my cousins grew up in La Loma a few blocks away from there. An old danish lady friend still lives there and she often spoke to Laci and Scott as they walked their dog.

Have you ever gone to scottisinnocent.com? That lady has a lot of followers. She has been on Court tv promoting her far-out theories. She definitely does not think that justice was served as we do.

Wonder how the golfers are doing? I asked John to get someone to take a picture of the two of them with their golf clubs. Bet he will forget.

Keep the Lightning striking!!! Makes for an exciting year for all of you.

The Verdict

Auntie Marge...Yep a pretty satisfying outcome for the past two year ordeal! Last time we were up in Modesto for Christmas is when this all went down.

I have to admit I'm one of those geeks that signed up for the wireless alert that would inform you that the verdict was being announced 2 hours in advance...the problem is....IT DIDN'T WORK! Most people I work with know I'm from Mo-town and so I was bombarded with calls about 12:30 just before the verdict. I did get to listen in, which was great!

The LA Times had a front page article this morning. They called Modesto a corny backwoods farm community with an arch in the middle of town that says "Water, Wealth, Contentment, Health"...which apparently (according to this source) was the winner of a contest in 1912. Most residences at the time wanted...."Nobody's got Modesto's Goat!" Scary.

Let's get on with the penalty phase!

Geoff

PS: Soccer update---Lightning wins 8-4 last night. Down again, 4-1 before second half on-slaught.

Such an excitng day!!

Geoff, I couldn't help laughing when I saw your large guilty post.  I have a teacher friend visiting from Oregon and we have been so happy all afternoon.  I didn't have Court TV on today since we were visiting when I got a call from Sandi at 1:20 giving me the great news.
She actually met Gloria Alred  in a restaurant a few days ago.  Sandi told her she thought Scott was guilty but it probably would be a hung jury.  Gloria told her that she felt that he would be found guilty. She certainly has more insight than we do.

HAVE A GREAT EVENING!!    We are going to Galettos to celebrate!!!!

GUILTY!

Rocking in Rocklin

Returning from Rocklin where I helped Heidi with the 3 girls while Ted was in Colorado,  I was pleased to see the addidtions to the Scheuber News.  Wow!  Aga is already making her mark at Merced College slamming Stan State.  Great pitching and batting!!  Looks like Aga and little Lauren are no girly girls.  Way to go Scheuber Stars!!!  Well, it looks like little 2 yr old Riley has some big shoes to fill.  She is such a  fan -loving to sport her favorite Oakland A's shirt and cheering and clapping for the team.   She was a star the day she made the big screen at a Oakland A's game this season.

So glad that we may be hearing from Karyn soon and hear all about her remodeled home and catch up on their family news.

So enjoyed hearing about the Coleman wedding and how the Jeff/Lori Coleman family was so involved with kids participating and even Grandma Mary Jane.  Must have been such a memorable day for all of you.

Saturday was Sydney's 4th birthday.  All of the JRS's were there except Benjamin (his dad's weekend)  Ted's parents and his sister and family were there also.  There were 7 little girls in total.  Matt and Zac were kept occupied with Ted's technical toys in the Great Room.  I can't pay enough compliments to Ted's interior decorating of his Great Room.  Before you enter the room you see the red/gold wooden sign announcing "Theatre" above and gold drapes adorning the entrance.  He has built a wooden stage at one end of the room and a full mirrored wall at the other end.  The stage is covered with dark red velvet drapes that pull back for the girls to do their entertaining. The background wall behind the drapes is painted a midnight blue and decorated with large  glittery stars.  Underneath the top of the curtains is a 10ft pull down screen for showing wide screen movies or playing xbox etc.  On the other walls are large movie posters (Shrek etc) that he has framed to match the decor of the room.  He has gold comedy/tragedy faces on each side of the windows and gold candle holders. He purchased off white leather sofas that sit behind a beautiful midnight blue/gold and dark red design area carpet.  Everyone ohs and ahs when they enter the room.  Needless to say the girls had to entertain us with their dancing on the stage.

I had a great 5 days at Heidi's place spending time with my girls. Getting to rock and cuddle little Callie was a highlight of my trip.  So enjoyed attending ballet and tap classes and shopping with all of them.

So glad to be home in one piece.  Last time I was at Heidi's I cracked my rib coming down the hill on Haley's scooter as she and I slammed into a curb.  This time the girls were jumping on my blow bed and proceeding to tilt it up in the air. As I ran over to help them the motor fell on my head causing me to rush to the fridge for a bag of frozen peas.

THINGS WERE ROCKING IN ROCKLIN

Posting Errors Explained!

Thanks for the explanation on the posting difficulties I, for one, was having.  You may have noticed that my "Coleman Wedding News" and "Mom's Birthday" postings (which I did post on Mom's BDay -- November 2) appeared repeatedly until Geoff graciously deleted the extra versions!

Karyn will be relieved to hear it's not just her either!  She has posted news on several occasions only to find her items never made it to the site.  I'll tell you, she was starting to feel like the rejected black sheep of the family!!  And boy does she have news to share ... updates on the kids, her house remodel, Mark, her excitement of having a cousin closer by (Sandi), etc ... and, let's just say the San Mateo courthouse is but a few short minutes from her house with her neighborhood now home to a couple of media regulars.  Karyn will have to fill you PCGs (Peterson Case Groupies) in with the rest.

Lots of love to all,
Lori

Thinking to brag about Aja today ,I must tell you I have the right, because  Grampas can brag if they want to. Even if I don~t have the right,I`m going to any way. This little sweetheart has made me very proud. She just finished the fall softball games last sunday.  She pitched for merced college in the first game of a four game tournement. She beat Stanislaus State ,] a class one team] and beat them 3 to 1. She also pitched a few ennings in the other games , and when she wasn`t pitching ,she played left field. They keep her in the games that shes not pitching in ,for her batting skills. She ended the fall season with a 407 batting average.  So if you think that is bragging, so be it.I`m proud of her and I love her, and if you have any remarks, lets hear em!  I now give all grand parents the right to brag! and am waiting to hear about anyone who or whom is doing great things.
I`ll be right back, the pizza is ready.....[ A while later]   Now I have to start bragging again.  Fran makes the best pizza, This was a recipt of her own . the flavors so well balanced between the sause , the salami, the ham, the basil, the hot pepper, the oilve oil, thr slight touch of garlic, and of course the hand made dough,  this pizza was so fantastic, that we ate the whole thing. Noone makes a pixxa like Fran . Iam so proud of her, and I love her too!  Do uou know that she will be 71 on her birthday Wenesday the ninth of November. She still looks the way she did when I married her. { I kept wondering at the wedding, why people were saying ",Why is he marring such an Old lady}"
Sorry I got carried away with my bragging to night ,but tht`s the way I feel!
             Good night   Uncle Bill

Tech Support

Hi all, I was curious about the problems we were having in posting to our Scheuber News site. I discovered a system status site that is really helpful, I saw the postings below which explains some of our issues. [I'm learning way more than I wanted to about all this...pretty cool tool for being free and all.]

Just know that you're not doing anything wrong when trying to send your email here...sometimes there are issues behind the scenes. (Specifically the November 1 post below explains the email trouble many of us were having.)

Happy Posting!

Am off to Lauren's Game!

Beel, you did good

Beel, that was very interesting about Warren Rupf. You did good to follow up when you saw his name on that form.  I'm sure we all have met him when he was a kid but I would never recognize him today.  Brings back a lot of old memories..........Paul, John, Emile, Babet(sp), Leona, Herby, Werner.........the stew........harvesting Paul's grapes with Snyder pulling the wagon.......Paul  smoking his pipe while on top of the hay in the barn.  Anyway, Beel, thanks!

Oleo, the Table Setting went great.  Lots of nice comments with most of the viewers rating us "number one" of the show.
One lady gave me a bad time because we invaded the ladies world.  She said, "it wouldn't have been so bad if you hadn't done such a nice job."  It was a lot of work but fun.  Thanks to Steve Collins' collection of golf stuff it was truly a beautiful table.

Congratulations to the Coleman's for what sounded like a super wedding.  They're going to have fun with that name, Dollar.  The only thing I could come up with was Sandi Dollar or if they had twins some how we could work in something to do with Two Buck Chuck.  Enough!!!!!

Auntie Marge / Peterson Case

Here we go with the deliberations in the Peterson case. I think it was brilliant of the judge to force the closing arguments to be completed by election day. Notice how the media was pre-occupied as the case was handed over to the jury...hopefully that will have kept much of the media opinions away from the jurors prior to being sequestered. I like what Gloria Allred said tonight on the Abrams Report, "The most obvious and odd behavior was when Laci and child were discovered, Scott was in San Diego with all his camping goodies, a bunch of cash, a new look, and a new car..."

Hopefully the jury can do the right thing. Am concerned that if it goes late into next week, the verdict might not be favorable.

Keep me posted on all your insight!

thanks,
Geoff

Beauty, Power, Solace

Yes, the Modesto Symphony Orchestra Chorus will be presenting "Beauty, Power, Solace" on Sunday, November 21, 2004, at 3:00 pm in the Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 1600 Carver Road.  Your aunt/sister-in-law/mother/grandmother (whichever the case may be) Margaret Scheuber of Carnegie Hall fame will be participating in the Modesto Symphony's first-ever all coral concert.  (this is Marge's third year with the Symphony Chorus)

Joining the MSO Chorus will be the Downey High School Nightingales, CSUS Women's Chorale, Opus Handbell Ensemble, and members of the Modesto Symphony Orchestra.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased on line at www.modestosymphony.org or can be purchased at the Modesto Symphony Orchestra office at 911 Thirteenth Street, Modesto (523-4156)  Some tickets may be available at the door but I would recommend calling the MSO office to make sure.

This should be a beautiful program.  Hope to see you there.

Fat Cat News

Upon returning from my cruise it took some catching up on the Modesto Bee newspapers.
Just wanted to note that our nephew 'cousin Jeff Duarte's Fat Cat made the Favorite Night Spot in the Modesto Bee Readers' Choice Awards again this year.  Not that he has too much competition!! Paladium Night Club got 2nd place. (where that is I haven't a clue)

Also as I was watching Nancy Grace last night on Court TV she got in another dig about our nephew /cousin  Mike C.  A lady called into the show asking her why none of the witnesses that thought they saw Laci Peterson on the day she disappeared were never called to testify.  Nancy Grace laughed commenting that they were not reliable witnesses and added. " I even interviewed a witness there that claimed he saw her, and he even had a glass eye."  I take offense to that--her insinuations that one cannot be a credible witness with a glass eye.  Well, that is typical of Nancy Grace. Incidentally she was in Modesto yesterday walking down Covena Ave and down to the park as she was  interviewing a neighbor.   She talked about the lovely neighbor ( no transients around at all )and that she would like to move there.  Watch out Mike C!!

A Memorable Coleman Wedding!

As many of you know, Jeff's sister Carrie was married last Saturday to a wonderful guy, David Dollar.  At 36 and 37, it was the first marriage for both of them, who fell in love at first sight when they met last October.  By the second date they knew in their hearts that the other was the person they would marry.  It was a joyous celebration for everyone, as friends and family alike pronouced it a perfect union!

Clayton and Aty were the proud parents, Carrie was a radiant bride and the day was picture perfect.  Jeff did the first reading and responsorial verses.  Our Anne, and David's niece Erika, were the candlelighters and all the Tantes said they looked like angels on the altar.  Nicolaus and Martin were the altar servers, though Nicolaus, who wasn't feeling too well, spent more time in the bathroom than on the altar.  Jeff, Steve and Karyn took turns checking on him during Mass.  At one point he told Karyn he had to get back because the cross was too heavy for Martin to carry out at the end of Mass!  Being the resourceful Scheuber that Karyn is, she was looking around for an altar server robe to wear herself!!  Nicolaus came through though, and we didn't need the "B" string.

Mom sang beautifully during the ceremony and the crowd was very complimentary.  Jeff's dad Clayton really sang her praises at the reception too,  where she got a round of applause and a chorus of "Heep, heep, heeps"!

The reception was so much fun: lots of toasts; happy tears; napkins flying high; "God Bless America"; a couple of Dutch standards; Jeff, his brother Marc and brother-in-law Tom looking "Elvis-like" and singing a customized version of "All Shook Up"; Nicolaus and Martin sporting Swiss napkin hats (four knots) and rolling everyone's pants up; the bride, groom and both sets of parents lifted high; "Tequilla" promenades; and, of course, lots and lots of "Heep, heep, heeps!!"

There are less than a handful of cousins yet to marry, and if this was one of the last weddings, it was easily one of the best -- a perfectly matched couple, joyous families that the two of them met, and lots of friends ready to celebrate!

It wasn't mentioned at the wedding but Carrie Ann Coleman is now Carrie A. Dollar -- a bit of "Scheuber" humor originating from the groom himself!  And, in case you Scheubers haven't thought of it already, they've ruled out Alida (Carrie's favorite Dutch girls' name) and Anita in the event they have a daughter!

Lots of love,
Lori

P.S.  The knot-tying napkin hat tradition was explained at the rehersal dinner with four knots signifying the Swiss Scheubers, and two knots, the Dutch Dykzeuls.  Martin created his own napkin hat that night which consisted of two, four-knotted napkins on his head.  He bounced past me and said, "Look Mom!  Eight knots -- Portuguese!!  He made his Vovo proud!

tidbits

Enjoyed catching up on the Scheuber news.  Congratulations to the Blue Lightning Soccer Stars!  What an exciting time for all of you!   Way to go Lauren!!  You guys are really fired up down there!

We have returned from our Caribbean Cruise having a great time being treating royally with a suite to enjoy are stay on the Royal Caribbean Enchantment of the Seas. ( Thanks to the VSI sales team that earned the points by selling all the Farnum horse products.)  It was great to see the young couples from other VSI branches who had never been on a cruise throrougly enjoing themselves.

While we were gone Taylor came home from the hospital to finally join her family. She made her first trip here  to Grandma and Grandpa's house yesterday.  Sandi was here to hold her new little niece along with the rest of us.  Sandi got moved to San Mateo a few weeks ago and is now happy to be 10 min from work.  She and I joined her realtor yesterday touring homes for a few hours.  She is looking for another home to purchase as a rental.

Got a call from Matthew on Saturday as he was entering the new Flix restaurant in Riverbank.  Flix Restaurant was built next to the Galaxy theatre there with the interior decorated to represent movie flicks.  Matt called to tell me that Benjamin is lifesize on a mural as you enter the restaurant.  It is a blown up photo of his class as they are seated in the movie theatre making excited faces. Upon telling Benjamin he told me that some other people had already told him about the picture being there.  His 5th grade teacher Mrs. Arnold and her husband own this restaurant so last spring they took the kids on a field trip to the movie theatre and then on to the restaurant for a tour and lunch. Naturally, I had to go over there to see for myself so Benjamin and I went over there on Saturday evening for dinner while grandpa was at a banquet.  Of course I had to take a photo of the photo and then a photo of Ben next to his photo.  Incidentally, the Arnolds who own the restaurant were friends of Scott and Laci Peterson.  (NOT ANYMORE)

I'm off to Heidi's home tomorrow to help her with the 3 little girls for 4 days while Ted is off on a business trip in Colorado.  She says that nursing the baby and getting the girls to all their activities is a bit challenging at times.  Ted working out of the home can lend a hand at times. (not with the nursing)

Court TV is spending the whole day on the Scott Peterson Trial. We are getting down to the wire on that one.   I did miss hearing about the trial while on the cruise.  Apparently they were in Modesto today questioning the neighbors on Covena Ave.  They are going to show that this evening.   Maybe I will spot Mike or Jana in the neighborhood.

Off to hear Nancy Grace!!!!

Warren Rupf

Thinking I should check out a name I found on one of the documents I needed to file with the contra costa county Building department for a job I am curently working on in Martinez, I found that Warren was the county Sheriff.  Being the courious type I checked it out, and found out that he was the son of Werner  Rupf Grandson of John Rupf, Grand nefew of the famous Paul Rupf, and Emile Ruph. This is more for the older generation. I met with him in his office, and had a grand old time talking about the good times he remembered at the ranch. He remembered that dad had a great sence of humor, and we  were playing can you top this.I told him about the funny things we look back on now, like when we worked for Paul we could always plan on having "Marlow steaw, raisin bread, and coffee for lunch. He got the biggest kick out of the story about dad always kidding Paul about how thight he wore his susspenders, and how he always had one foot off the ground. We swaped stories for a while ,and he told me that he also was the coronnor, and how he was involved in the lacy petterson case, because the bodies were found in Contra Costa County. He also has two brothers, Werner Emile,They call him John, and Kieth Pius, who he thinksPius was his  Godfather.  We agreeded to have lunch next time I can catch him in his office. He is very tall and looks like his father. He sends his greetings to all the Scheubers, and was very happy that I took the time to look him up. It was a great fouty five minutes I spent with him, and I will do it again. I`ll report back to you that are interested. THe rest will have to  Put up with us "OLdies" as we reminis.
