The little things

There are so many things that are happening around us each day  that we are neglect to enjoy . Let me take you away from the hussle and bussle of it all, and drive you to a quiet spot in the hills where the grass is green and the light breeze is softly blowing on your face as we depart the car on a country road, climb theough a wire fence tha is rusted  over time without notice, We are going to notice  the barbs and the twist of the two wires and the way it was fastend to the aging post that is also showing some rinkels and may be an old looking knot hole. We may also notice that a bird has landed there a few times and left some white streaks down the side . This is all pure nature.  As we lift on one wire while pushing down on the other with our foot to let who or whom others have taken this little journy with us today, to pass through the space with out catching thier shirt or sweater, on a barb.  We are now ready to transgress through the grassy field, riasing to the top of the hill. Having reached the top, with our lungs pumping a little more air tha normal, wecan look around us and notice that we can see a larger land scape than we could in the city. First we notice the light blue sky with the soft clouds that are floating happily in space without any rush or ajenda. So peaceful and calm. This brings us closer to nature . We now will find a comfortable spot, preferably in the boosum of two smaller hills. This will give us the privacy to lay down in the multi colored green grass. We are now begining to get away from it all, and enjoy the warm sun that is doing a number of things , we are not yet aware of. The sun is of coarse, is warming us from the light breeze. It of coarse is doin g much more. The sun is providing ultra violet rays that are so important to the growth of the grass. did you notice that thegrass has many hues of green? Yes ther are very light, all most white to medium to dark.   ther may be som beige to darker browns from the old gras that were once greea and now are providing a seed bed , so to speek for thier young. The older dried gras ha produced the seed from which the new grass is growing. ther are also intermediate hues of green, simply because the breeze is makeing the small blades of grass move slightly, there by casting shadows on one another as they catch the sun, or blocking the sun. This too can create interest if one takes the time to observe.  Now as we continue our journy deeper to the ground from which the grass is growing, We find little grains of soil. Each grain in its self is part of the whole, which in turn becomes the earth. Also known as mother earth. Mother earth, is a  mother to many things seen and unseen. It is impotant to know that we can not see many exciting things with naked eye, There for it is necessary to bring a magnifying glass on a field trip like this.  We are only on a fact finding trip this time so we will save that part of the lecture for anothe time when we need to slow our life down a bit. So, we have gotten down to mother earth. Now we must get to living things. As we look down into the grass amongst the grains of earth, we find movement.  Takeing a closer look, we find ants. Ants are a very important part of the whole universe. Watch closely and you will see them as industrial and busy. We learn a lot from ther ability to construst thier domisiles, bridges, and many other things like road building. As we watch we see how they send out a scout ant to find food. The ant will hurry around going different directions ,maybe a step or two to the left the again to the left and striaght for few inches, then right, then left and left again, maybe a quick stop, and right again.  This patteron may go on for some time. When he hits pay dirt he stick two fingers in his mouth and whistle to one of worker ants and he in turn will pass on the word to rest of the workers. Soon a army of ants will arrive in a well disiplined line ,and begin to carry the goodies back to the Queen, Who will decide how it will be stored, and how much can be eaten for that days meal.
Have you ever seen an ant funeral? Yes they do die. Many die, becaue we are unaware and step on them. The ants are also victems of terrists spraying poison gas. You see, they have some of the same things we have to worry about in daily life.  The ant funeral is similar to a people funeral. The funeral starts with a gatheing of the community. It looks as though there are some words spoken about wahat a good hard worker he was,and what a good provider he was. This is just an assumtion beacause they don`t use P.A.systems I had to guess what was said, but it did look very solem. The next thing was the procession. The pall beaers would carry the body a short distance then lay it down and  all the ants would cry for a few minutes, then dry thier tears, and the body would be picked up again and be move perhaps a foot in people measure, and go through the same routine again. This seems to depend on how far the berial grounds where from where the ant died. Once he is carefuly bearied, the small littl eants would carry pieces of leaves, that looked almost too large to carry, and placed them on the grave. The next time you see an ant carrying a big piece of leaf you will know a funeral is taking place.
As the sun is begining drop lower into the sky, we must gather our thoughts, and what we have learned today we bid farewell to our new friends and find our way down the hill, get through the wire fence, and into the car for our ride back to reality..  Next time we will bring a magnifying glass and get into more detail of what our world is all about.  By the way there will be a test!             Uncle Bill
