We can all register online and save alot of time and postage. (I'm usually Fed-Exing my stuff to Sara at the last minute...).

Sports Update

Hi all!

Soccer (minor league)
Lauren's new team "The Beach Girls" started their Spring Select season blasting the local Redondo Beach all-stars 5-0. Recall that we finished the regular season playoffs on a Saturday then didn't miss a beat and started up on Monday with a whole new team. This is a shorter interim season for select players, so uh maybe there's a short break in sight. Lauren is playing solid as always, a small hiccup with Osgood/Schlatters in her left knee, but it hasn't slowed her down. She just loves to play this game.

Softball (major league)
Aja Scheuber strikes again. Merced College is currently ranked #14 in the State and yesterday in Visalia they beat Shasta and Cypress (both rated higher in the state rankings). In the first game (6-0), the score was 0-0 in the 8th inning when Aja hit a three run home run to break it open!

The second game wasn't close. It was called after 5 innings because of the "8 run" rule. Aja pitched in that game without giving up a run. She also went 2 for 3 with a double and a walk, Merced winning 10-2.

Get this...Aja on the day goes 3/7, has 6 rbi's, an her batting average actually dropped from .529 to .519. Amazing!

Just had to share that!

Have a great Easter Weekend,

Geoff

NOTE: See Aja live! Merced plays at MJC next Thursday at 1pm.

Sunday's Progress

Hello Everyone!

It's Sunday afternoon and I thought I'd report in on Dad's progress.  Yesterday, he graduated out of ICU and was moved up to the orthopedic/surgical floor.  Dr. Hsu says he coming along well and that most likely he'll get to go for that long awaited "jog" around the floor today.  It had been postponed from Friday due to his migraine and its lingering affects.

The kids and I went up to see Dad yesterday and he was still sleeping a lot (mostly due to the morphine), but he had his wits about him and his sense of humor.  He's already planning a new two-story outhouse drawing, with Mother Superior getting top billing!  The ideas you can come up with in a Catholic hospital!  He's always thinking.

Mom reported today that the doctor is easing him off the morphine and changed the dressing on his incision.  At this point, he'll probably be there until Wednesday.

If any one is interested, you may contact Dad at St. Mary's Medical Center, 450 Stanyan Street, San Francisco, CA 94117.  The phone number there is 415-750-5777.  He's in Room 809.

Sorry for the repeated messages before.  I guess I was too "button-happy" and thought it would post if I just kept sending it!

Lots of love,
Lori

Update from Scheidegger

Wow!  It takes a week for a message to get posted.  Today is Saturday, March 19.  Our sister-in-law, Elisa, got her results back from her MRI.  The doctor told her she has two cysts and a 3x3 lesion on her liver.  He referred her to a liver specialist and they confirmed that she does NOT have cancer!!  We are so relieved!!  She will need to change her lifestyle a bit as she can no longer drink alcohol and she must stay off any hormones.  She sees the specialist again in four months.  We will hopefully see them next week while we are in the Bay Area.

I am off for Spring Break now and Mike has a business trip in San Francisco next week.  When I found out where he would be staying, I said I had to go with him!!!  We are staying at the Palace Hotel and while he is at his business meetings I will be getting a massage (a pregnancy massage that is--I have the doctor's permission) and facial and will be lunching at poolside---------as I grade papers.  My mom will meet me for one afternoon and we will go shopping in Union Square which is directly across the street.

For Easter, we will be in Clayton at my god father's new house.  The whole Hopwood bunch should be there.  We will keep up the tradition of hiding eggs from the little ones.

Enjoy Holy week!

Hospital Homecoming

Hello Everyone,

There was a bit of a "blogger-delay" in the posting of my last message, but like Geoff said, we're at the mercy of this free service!

As I write this, it's Tuesday evening and Mom said that the doctor will be releasing Dad to go home tomorrow (Wednesday), barring any last minute complications.  His progress has been steady: he's walked at least twice a day, practiced stairs (including the hospital stairwell), learned all those basics like dressing, showering and using the bathroom without bending his back, and studied his limitations with regard to activity.  In any given 2-3 hour period, he is allowed to sit in a straight-back chair for 5 minutes, recline in a chair for 45 minutes or take short 10-minute walks.  The rest of the time he will be laying on his back.  If I'm not mistaken, this will last for at least 4-6 weeks, if not 10 weeks, depending upon his first check-up.  Mom will be able to clarify the specifics.

He's been a great patient so far.  Let's hope Mom can say the same after the first three months!!

Lots of love,
Lori

Scheubers at Scheidegger

Hello all----

I finally have a few minutes to write now that my school's yearbook is done and the honors field trip is over!!!

Lori-We will be thinking about your dad as he hopefully leaves the hospital today to recover at home!!

I just got back last night from Ashland, Oregon where I took 200 honors 7th and 8th graders to the Shakespeare Festival.  It was so much fun!  The weather was beautiful and the plays and workshops were awesome.  I taught Shakespeare's Richard III and we got to see the play while we were there.  My students loved it (if they could stay awake after a long day at the college campus).  We also got to meet the actor that played Richard (evil character) and he taught us how to do combat with swords on stage.  Other than swollen ankles, I felt great the whole trip.

While I was gone, Mike finished up  painting the baby's room.  Last weekend, Mike and his dad put together the crib while Marge and I went to the fabric store to pick out patterns for baby blankets.  I can't wait to see Marge's creation.

We have another ultrasound in a week.  My doctor thought the baby was a bit small so she wants to check the progress of growth.  She's not worried, just taking every precaution necessary.  I'd be perfectly fine with a smaller baby!!!!!!  Marge and Leo will come with us to the next ultrasound as my parents attended the first one.  My mom didn't have enough will power to turn  her head as Mike and I did so she knows the sex of the baby.  She's the world's best fooler so she has been instructed to play with our heads and not reveal if it's a boy or a girl.  As a first time grandmother, she had to know to help with her shopping!

My brother's wife, Elisa, is going for tests this week on her liver.  She is an extremely healthy 26 year old, and we are all staying positive, but extra prayers are always a good thing.  I will keep you posted on her results.

Mike and I are off to Baby's R Us.  Marge got us a wonderful organizer book to help plan for a baby.  Mike just got done reading it and he's feeling a bit overwhelmed with car seats, strollers, etc.  We are off to make the final decisions!!

We hope you are enjoying the beautiful weather and we hope to see you soon.

Love to all,
Ashlee

Babies and more

Just checking up on the Scheuber news after being gone for a week at Heidi's getting my little girl fix after not seeing them since Christmas.  Sounds like Uncle Ernie has had his share of pain for awhile.  That yukky blood clot sure didn't help much.  Hopefully he is coming home today.  Thanks Lori for keeping us informed.  Also glad to hear that Marge is making progress in getting back on her feet again.(no pun intended)

Hey Geoff, you are far from being old.  I can't even remember going to an orientation for the kids going to high school.  I'm sure we did though.  Sounds like your trip to Riverside was exciting getting to be in the playoffs and staying at the Mission Inn. When I go with John to VSI in Riverside he treats me to dinner there.  I think the Inn is especially beautfiul in the evening with the romantic lighting. I think that I recall that the Nixon's were married there.

How is Ashlee doing these days?  She must be looking pregnant by now. Hopefully she is over the morning sickness.  ( or for her all day sickness)  We haven't heard news from them on the site for awhile.

We never hear from the Pius Scheuber family.  Someone out there: Tom, David, Stephanie, and Jana--we know you have email.   Let's hear from you.

Our Scheuber babies are doing great as they fill out into little chubs.  I so enjoyed my time with little Callie.  She eats every 3 hours and is happy as long as she gets fed on time. Haley and Sydney love her dearly and she gets excited when they are around. I can't remember being so exhausted as I was when I came home on Thursday.  I went to bed at 5pm and didn't get up until 8am the next morning.  It was worth it though!  On Good Friday I get my Taylor and Riley fix as I spend the day at their house.(their day care center is closed that day)

John and I are off to San Francisco today for a Danish Installation for their local lodge.  He is giving a power point presentation on a year-long project that he has undertaken.  He can't get away from the teacher in him.  Tomorrow we are meeting Sandi for breakfast before heading back home.

If It's Not One Thing, It's Another!

Hello Everyone,

It's Wednesday evening now, and Dad's hospital departure is getting bumped back yet another time!

This afternoon Mom mentioned Dad repeatedly had the sensation that he needed to go to the bathroom but just wasn't able to do it when he tried.  I suggested he perhaps had a bladder infection, since he had a 100.8 temp, too.  They were testing him for that and Mom felt that would be the problem, with a quick dose of antibiotic to clear it up.

Well, it wasn't a bladder infection.  Mom received a call from Dr. Hsu asking about Dad, and Mom said he really was uncomfortable and just wasn't doing too well.  The doctor came over immediately and decided to reinsert the cathiter.  It worked promptly as he relieved himself of more than one liter of fluid and a blood clot!  What had happened was that the blood clot had lodged itself in the urethra which had prevented Dad from relieving himself.  Needless to say, he's feeling much better now!

Dr. Hsu now says Dad will go home perhaps Friday or Saturday.  I think between this latest episode, the pain medication dilemna and the low grade fever, they want to make sure there are no loose ends left undone before he leaves.

Other than these various housekeeping issues, Dad's back is continuing to heal well and his walking is progressing quite nicely.

Lots of love,
Lori

Homecoming Postponed

Hello Everyone,

It's Wednesday afternoon and I thought I'd share that Dad's stay in SF was extended for at least a day because his new pain medication was causing major nausea and an overall "yucky" feeling.  The doctor didn't think the drive home would be very much fun!

I talked to him a few minutes ago and he did his best Grandma Scheuber imitation when I asked how he was feeling: "Oh, not too gutt.  Feelin' kinda' slumpy."  Hopefully the doctor will be able to fine tune his medication and dosage so he can get home soon.  Other than medication issues, his back and walking are progressing on target.

Lots of love,
Lori

Long Beach News

Glad to hear Uncle Ernie is doing well! Thanks for the updates Lori!

Soccer, still. Lauren's season finally came to an end on Saturday at the Division 1 Playoffs in Riverside. Three games that day, only 1 loss, but that was enough to eliminate the Blue Lightning. Some sadness, but general relief from most parents. Lauren practiced with her new Spring Select team last night. And so it begins.

I took Erin to High School orientation last week. Wow, what a time warp. I remember going to mine! She's excited for September, I'm old.

Venus is well! She turned our Riverside trip into a mini vacation and booked us at the Mission Inn for Saturday night following the big soccer tournament. What an awesome place, the pool and peace and quiet helped rejuvenate disappointed soccer girl.

All for now!

Geoff

PS Hey, what's up with all the new babies?? Updates please!

Keep Trying!

From the duplicate messages going through, it looks like our email notes are finally posting! Thanks for your patience. I deleted the previous duplicate messages to date.

Apparently there was some issue posting email messages to the website. It wasn't just our site, all were affected. We were at the mercy of this free service to get the issue resolved, sorry it took soooo long.

Uncle Ernie's Progress

Good Morning Everyone!

Dad had a very successful surgery yesterday.  It lasted just under four hours and the doctor said he came through beautifully.  Dr. Hsu predicted from 80-90% leg pain relief, and a bit more back relief than he had hoped -- which is icing on the cake!  The doctor couldn't believe Dad's resilience to the pain he had endured, considering the condition of the spine and nerves he observed during surgery.

Last night was very restful for Dad, and if everything continues on this course he should be moved out of ICU to the surgical floor.  Today they will be getting him up for his first "jog".

I'll keep you posted as I know more.

Lots of love,
Lori

P.S.  If you are interested, you can email a message to Dad in Room 207 (he'll have a new room number when they move him) at http://www.stmarysmedicalcenter.org/stellent/websites/get_page_cache.asp?ssDocName=059197

Trying one more time!!!!!

Well, I'm trying again.  Thanks Lori for your call and update on this blog regarding your dad's progress.
We're all happy that the surgery went well and that he will finally have some relief from all that pain.  In a couple of days he probably will be chasing the nurses around the hospital.

My patient is doing well also.  Marge graduated from the walker to going solo.  Not running at full speed yet but is getting around.  Even was able to put a shoe on.  Now the next challenge will be getting behind the wheel and becoming a little more independent.

We will be visiting with Mike and Ashlee this weekend so, Olemarge, we will be within hollering distance if you're going to be in Rocklin.

Now that Scheuber News is back on line maybe we'll begin hearing from all of you again to let us know what is going on out there in Scheuberland.   And, Heaven forbid, maybe we'll hear more half truth stories from Beeley.  Come on Beeley, tell us about the good ole days.

Hey, We're back on line

I also tried to get on Scheuber News to give an update on Marge's progress but bombed like everyone else. Called the Coleman House yesterday afternoon to check on Ernie's progress and reached Annie who informed me that Ernie's surgery went well and was in recovery. Lori and MJ would be able to see him at 5:00 PM. Hopefully now that Scheuber News is up again we'll get an occasional progress report.

Marge has graduated from walker to going solo. Has even managed to get a shoe on so we're making progress. Next will be getting behind the wheel again which should be in a few days or so.

We will be visiting Mike and Ashlee this weekend so, Olemarge, we will be close by as you take care of the Rockland grandkids.

That's about it from 1117 Petersburg Way. Let's hear it from the Scheuber world. What's going on? I miss the half truth stories from Beeley.

Welcome back Scheubernews!

So glad to see some Scheuber news again.  We are keeping Ernie in our thoughts and prayers as he furthers his journey to seek relief for the pain he has endured for some time now.  He and MJane stopped by VSI to take care of some business as they were heading out to the big city by the bay.  I tried to post a message some short time after Marge's foot surgery but it didn't go through.  Wishing Marge a thorough recovery.  Looking forward to seeing her run around the track at the Relay for Life.

John and I were thrilled to have been treated now for about the 4th time to attend the Pro Am golf tournament at Pebble Beach.  We were fortunate to have a breakfast and dinner table on the club deck overlooking the 18th hole, especially since it rained part of the day. Seeing Kevin Costner, Andy Garcia made my day.  Sorry Clint wasn't there. Heard several spectators fire Donald Trump.  Leaving Pebble  we drove to Castroville so that John (dear husband that he is) could use his photography skills to snap some photos of the grave sites of my long lost ancestors to add to my genealogy collection.  Spent the eveing having a lovely Italian dinner at the end of the Pier in Santa Cruz.

Tomorrow I head for Rocklin to care for my darling Rocklin granddaughters. Maybe they won't be darlings after a week with them.  Mommy and Daddy are heading for Puerta V. Mexico.
Grandpa has his annual trade show this weekend at VSI.  He is also caring for Benjamin. It will be a blast for Ben since VSI provides a shuttle bus each day to and from Boomers and treats the children to an all day pass.

Off to take Ben out to dinner to celebrate his 13th birthday ( which is really on Saturday)  He wants to go to that Greek restaurant Papa Pavios.  Leave it to Ben to want to try something different.
Signing off.

Uncle Ernie's Going "Back" to Surgery

Hello All,

Well, Dad's going in for a second back surgery tomorrow (Thursday) at St. Mary's Medical Center in San Francisco.  Doctor Hsu (pronounced "shoe"), whose patient list includes Joe Montana, will be wielding the knife.  It's set for 10 a.m. and will last about three hours.  He'll be staying in ICU through Friday and his overall stay will be 6-7 days.

Dad is looking forward to the relief he should feel from the pain he endures in his legs, and somewhat in his back.  We are all hopeful it will be a success.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers for a successful surgery and a complete recovery for Dad, and for his loving caregiver, Mom!

Lots of love,
Lori
