Hospital Homecoming

Hello Everyone,

There was a bit of a "blogger-delay" in the posting of my last message, but like Geoff said, we're at the mercy of this free service!

As I write this, it's Tuesday evening and Mom said that the doctor will be releasing Dad to go home tomorrow (Wednesday), barring any last minute complications.  His progress has been steady: he's walked at least twice a day, practiced stairs (including the hospital stairwell), learned all those basics like dressing, showering and using the bathroom without bending his back, and studied his limitations with regard to activity.  In any given 2-3 hour period, he is allowed to sit in a straight-back chair for 5 minutes, recline in a chair for 45 minutes or take short 10-minute walks.  The rest of the time he will be laying on his back.  If I'm not mistaken, this will last for at least 4-6 weeks, if not 10 weeks, depending upon his first check-up.  Mom will be able to clarify the specifics.

He's been a great patient so far.  Let's hope Mom can say the same after the first three months!!

Lots of love,
Lori
