What is Swissriegel?
So that you don't think it is just a made up name. Swissriegel is a style of play invented by Eric Rappan, Swiss National Soccer Team Coach of the 1920 and 1930's. This will most certainly bore most Scheuber News readers except for Lauren and Mike and the Duarte boys who played or practice with me over the years. I used this system of play in the 1990's to win one outdoor soccer state championship and 3 indoor soccer state championships, but please understand that it takes talented players to win all those games and put up the mind blowing statistics that they did. I was fortunate to just sit back and let them play.
Anyway Lauren this is what it looks like:
striker
leftwing rightwing
playmaker swissriegel
centerback centerback
leftmarkingback rightmarkingback
sweeper
goalkeeper
The Swissriegel or Swissbolt as he is called, is your most skilled and smartest player and he joins the attack when he sees that the opponent is vulnerable. By having two centerbacks and two marking backs and sweeper, your defense never has less than 5 players back and ready to stop the ball.
Soccer lesson for the day.
yours truly, the Professor (retired) Cousin Bill
