Congratulations to Aja Scheuber!!!! It's Official She's Off to Fresno!

The rumors are true, family!

Aja has signed letter of intent to accept a scholarship to play softball at Divsion one softball powerhouse Fresno State. The Fresno State Bulldogs are the only school to qualify for regional playoffs for 21 consecutive years and have won 10 Western Athletic Conference Championships and one National Championship all under the guidance of Head Coach Margie Wright who happens to be the winningest coach (over 1200 wins) in the history of the sport. Coach Wright visited Aja in Turlock last week and offered her the scholarship and told her that they had been following her for two years. Aja has been all Central Valley Conference 1st team the past two seasons and this year she was named CVC Player of the Year, All Northern California team and All State Team.

Aja is currently working out to get ready for the USA International all-star
team that is travelling to Aruba for a 8 day tournament July 26 to August 2!

(The above information submitted to me by a very excited "Regal" Father!)

Devils' Scheuber bound for Fresno---Saturday, June 3, 2006;
Merced sophomore slugger signs letter of intent to play for Bulldogs

A few days before Aja Scheuber and fellow members of the Merced College softball team were set to host the Northern California Region 3 Playoffs in early May, Fresno State assistant softball coaches Laura Berg and Marcie Green-Jones visited a She-Devils' practice. The coaches were there to keep a watchful eye on Scheuber's talent at the plate, and after the lefty deposited two consecutive pitches over the right field scoreboard at She-Devil Diamond, they apparently had seen all they needed to see.

Scheuber, an all-state selection and the Central Valley Conference's Player of the Year, signed a letter of intent on Friday to play for the Bulldogs. She will attend the college thanks to a partial athletic scholarship. "Growing up, I used to joke around and say, 'Someday I want to play for Fresno State,' " Scheuber said, "but I didn't think it would happen." The sophomore's statistics this season as a She-Devil were no joke. Scheuber led the team with 33 RBIs while hitting .368. A disciplined hitter, she also led the state in walks with 39.

Scheuber, who combined with sophomore Nicky Brown as the aces of Merced's pitching staff, led the team with a 1.87 ERA. But all indications point to Scheuber playing the role of a position player for the Bulldogs, something she says she's used to from her Turlock High School days.
She'll be under the tutelage of 21-year head coach Margie Wright, who has led Fresno State to nine Western Athletic Conference championships. The Bulldogs were 37-19 this season, ultimately losing a three-game series to Stanford in the NCAA Regionals. Cassady said Scheuber should have no problem adjusting to the rigors of NCAA Division I play. "She'll do fine," Cassady said. "She's an outstanding hitter and she has a competitive personality. She deserves it and I'm excited for her."

The moment could be described a bittersweet for Cassady, who had the luxury of watching Scheuber become a standout player the past two seasons. "I'd pencil her in (the lineup) at the No. 3 slot and go to sleep," Cassady quipped, while noting not once did he dare take the bat out of Scheuber's hands by asking her to bunt.

After Scheuber attended a recent Fresno State playoff game with her father, Bill Scheuber, the soon-to-be Bulldog had positive things to say about Wright's coaching style, noting Wright "is really into" the sport and its high level of competition. Scheuber is well aware of the university's athletic tradition, saying the school has "a reputation of having powerhouse teams." She hopes to help add to that tradition come early 2007. "I just want to play my best and show people that I didn't get a scholarship for nothing," Scheuber said of possible goals for next season. "I'll try and be a leader, but I'll also take plenty of advice."

A few other schools -- including University of California, Davis and San Francisco State -- showed interest in Scheuber. As it turns out, Scheuber signed with the Bulldogs one day removed from her 20th birthday.

This is the big time, folks! Congrats Aja, we are very proud of you!

See you when you play in Fullerton down here!
