remembering the relay

What a fulfilling weekend!  Starting off Friday night at the Duarte house learning how to make the famous Swiss macaroni.  Now, Uncle Beely and Auntie Nini each have their own style when it comes to making this traditional dish.  Uncle Beely says you SHOULD TO put only half of the cube of butter in the pan before putting in the onions, and then when the onion browns you SHOULD TO  put in the rest of the butter.  Auntie Nini states that she makes it the way MOM did.  Think they both are ready for EMERIL LIVE or RACHAEL RAY!  Thanks to both of them for a delightful evening.  Thanks to Uncle Jim for keeping our glasses filled with wine.

WOW!  What a hot time was had by all last Saturday!  In spite of the weather, we all had a great time. Squirt guns, spray bottles and lots of water consumed kept us from dehydrating. Uncle Bill's delicious macaroni  and Auntie Fran's cookies kept our energy level up.  Was surprised that Grandpa Scheuber & Shelly were again on the big screen after dark.  Guess they used the power point from last year.  Auntie Marge joined the SURVIVOR walk which is always so impressive to start off the relay.

Barbara Costa Cole was a new member this year.  She was quite a trooper for walking many times around in the heat and spending the night with the younger generation.  Barbara is a member of Mike & Sarah's church and also a mother of one of my former students at Salida Elementary. Just found out after the relay that she is somehow related to Jim Duarte.  Must not forget McKenzee as our newest, youngest member. She was a busy little bee as she toddled around the Scheuber site mingling with her new-found cousins.

Uncle Leo had a great new sign for our site this year.  "RINGING FOR A CURE"
As usual he was the biggest RINGER of all, keeping the hot walkers cheerful.

Zac was quite a happy camper since he purchased a few raffle tickets, and as usual he was a winner:  Television, DVD player, large basket of food items(Lauren spoke for the candy), and a bicycle.  Way to go Zac!!

Thanks to all for their contributions to this worthy cause!!!!  olemarge
A special thanks to Sarah who begins months ahead of time going to relay meetings and preparing for the big event.

PS  Anxious to see the upcoming video.    olemarge
