Modesto grad makes Swiss soccer team
Laura Ott, a 2001 Modesto High grad, earned her first international cap Thursday, playing in the second half of Switzerland's win over Norway in the Nordic Cup, an international women's soccer tournament in Sweden. Ott, 24, was a three-year captain at the University of San Francisco. She took a leave of absence from her teaching position at Paradise Elementary to chase her dream of playing international soccer. Since her grandmother is a Swiss native, Ott was able to claim dual citizenship. She flew to Switzerland on July 1, attended a national team tryout July 5-6 and was added to the team July 7. The Swiss side meets England's under-23 team today.
