''STORY ABOUT SWISS RUNNER''

Pleasant Grove woman wins race at Swiss Days |
LAURA C. GILES - North County Staff | |
A combination of hard work, discipline, and a love for running helped Pleasant Grove resident Andrea Scheuber come in first place at the Swiss Days 10K race in Midway. The race, held on Sept. 2, began at 7 a.m. and included 314 runners. Scheuber, 30, placed first in her category of women ages 30-34. She finished the race with a time of 43:12.1 and placed sixth overall. This year was the 60th anniversary of the Midway Swiss Days, an event that began as a celebration of bountiful harvest. It now attracts thousands of visitors each year and helps to raise funds for community projects. Early settlers of the area came from Switzerland and the event celebrates with Swiss food, Swiss stories, and merchandise. Scheuber also has reason to celebrate the Swiss heritage. She moved to Pleasant Grove one year ago from Switzerland with husband, Volker, and children, Kim and Liam. As a teenager, she ran cross-country and enjoyed mountain running in Switzerland. In 2003, she was the Swiss champion mountain runner. The mountain races require running 10-12 miles up very steep terrain. "I love the mountain runs," said Scheuber. To train, Scheuber runs for one hour each day, often to the "G" and back, in Grovecreek Canyon, or along the canal by her home. "I have never had training opportunities so close," she said. According to Scheuber, "Americans are amazing. They exercise so early in the mornings. At 6 a.m., the road by the canal is full of people. In Europe, we do our work in the evenings." In addition to running, Scheuber works out daily using the Nia technique. Nia (Neuromuscular Integrative Action) is a combination of martial arts, yoga, dance, and spiritual self-healing. She has been a Nia instructor for four years. Discipline is necessary to have success with running as she has had. When talking about the Swiss Days race, Scheuber said, "It was my goal to win. It was chilly and fresh. It was a really fast run." In addition to the Swiss Days 10K, she has also competed in other marathons and triathlons. In 1998, she had the opportunity to run the New York Marathon. Earlier this year, she took second place at the Freedom Run 10K in Provo. Exercising is not the only thing that Scheuber enjoys. She also loves to cook and write. In Switzerland, she wrote a children's book titled "A Travel Beyond Your Dreams" (translated from German.) And, she will begin teaching Nia on Sept. 19 at the Pleasant Grove Recreation Center, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7 a.m. This story appeared in North County on page A1. |

''FIVE CENTS''
Thursday, February 28, 2008
Okay, another two cents, which makes four cents in all
NOTE: I just put the "S" word in google and my last entry about this whole name and search thing came up on the list. I was able to click it and get into the blog. Also it seems that google will take names out of whole paragraphs and highlight them. In other words, you can have "Bill" in one sentence and then a couple of sentences later have the "S" word, and google will find the two. So, it's not just the first and last names together, but when they appear in the same paragraph, or even the same page that makes the site accessible when someone searches a name.
My two cents
Anyone in the world who has access to any family members name can use a search engine such as google or yahoo, and be brought straight into the Scheuber International News, filled with private family information. Once in the sight they can use the blog search to narrow their search. As an example: Those family members who are job hunting can then have potential employers use the name on the resume to search on google and be lead to Scheuber International News and private family news that should be left out of the professional workplace . In the case of safety for children, strangers can get into the sight and obtain information as to where the children live and what schools they go to, as well as other information. The Scheuber International News is a fun place to keep in touch within the family. Let's keep it that way and keep strangers out by not using first and last names within any blog message.
Thanks,
Just "Cousin David" or "David"
Advice Needed
Recently the issue of security has come up again. Since this site is very public and very easy to get to....AND very easy to search for, there is a concern that our personal data could fall into the wrong hands.
I'd like opinions on how we should address this. There are many ways. We could password the whole thing...my least favorite. We could delete old posts...however that eliminates good family stories and archives. We could use only first names, and remove any reference to the "S" word altogether. I'm open to suggestions.
Think about it, post your thoughts. We'll figure out a solution.
Hope everyone is doing well!

Scheuber Genealogy
Greetings from
I have recently started researching my ancestry. My 9th great grandmother was Christina Scheuber (daughter of Bruder Konrad Scheuber) who married Melchior Christen. My father, Alfred Eduard Christen, and mother, Elsa Maria Odermatt, immigrated from
I came across the “Scheuber International News” website today, and I can’t help but wonder if any of you Scheubers might be related to me. Is there anyone of your group who is the family historian that I could communicate with and exchange info to see if my family tree crosses with yours? And if so, can you either give that person’s contact info or give my contact info to that person?
I appreciate your consideration,

And the Winner is .... Anne Coleman!!!!!!
Hello Everyone,
There’s exciting news at the Coleman house. Anne was named South Turlock’s Junior Miss on Saturday night!! She did an excellent job and we are so proud of her and her efforts. She shares the honor with Elizabeth Arakelian, who was named
It was a tough day and night for Anne, as just prior to her oral interview with the panel of judges her voice was marginal from the lingering affects of a cough and cold. A quick nap prior to the interview restored it long enough to endure the 10-minute interview and then she returned home for a 4-hour nap. She left for the performance with a 100.8 temperature (and a lot of Tylenol and Acetaminophen) in her system. In true Anne form, she persevered to the finish!
Lots of family was there to support and congratulate her including Vovo and Grandpa, Aunt Karyn, Uncle Mark, Cousin Kathryn, Oma, Opa, Uncle Marc Coleman, Tante Rona, and Tante Kelly. Of course, Jeff and I were there with the boys, too!
Thanks for your well wishes and prayers. Anne Franziska brought pride to the Scheuber name! Now she’s off to
Lots of love,
Lori
