SACCG
What is SACCG? In honor of Uncle John's recent acronym stool party theme I
will try to explain what SACCG is. SACCG..................Scheuber Abstract
Comedy and Creativity Gene. All Scheubers are born with it, kind of like
"The Force" for all you Star Wars fans. Some non-Scheubers who marry into
the family actually acguire it by osmosis. The examples are many, Uncle Leo
and Uncle Pius' award winning stools, My Dad and his brothers now famous
"Swiss Midget" routine, many years of Ripon Swiss Club Masquerade
hijinx:(Coo Coo Clock, Train, Space Ship etc.) Cousin Davids success on the
Big Stage, Mike Chiavetta's left wing liberal Democrat ideas (He can't be
serious, that has to be a comedy routine), Ben's abstract look at the world
(a kid after my own heart), Cousin Geoff's Scheuber News creation, and many
many more comedic and creative contirbuitons by Scheubers too numerous to
mention here. Last year my attempt at abstract Scheuber humor (the
Swissriegel vs. Uncle Beel's home- spun yarns blog-a-feud ) played to mixed
reiviews. So this year instead of frightening everyone I will tell a true
story about Grandpa Scheuber that is appropriate for the Giving Season.
Being the oldest of the third generation Scheubers. I was the first of many
to spend a weekend overnight at "The Ranch" with Grandma and Grandpa. Of
course there were many adventures and firsts for a youngster from the city.
Hunting jackrabbits (with bow and arrow no less), milking cows and the
ceremonial squirt in the face, retrieving eggs and honey (my first bee
sting) amazing what mud and chickensh#t will do for a bee sting. But one day
I remember quite clearly coming back from Jumbo Market on Crows Lnding Road
with Grandma and Grandpa shopping for groceries and after Grandpa parked the
old Ford Falcon in the garage next to the tractor and the old red Ford
pickup, he left the keys in the ignition of the Falcon. In fact the keys
were in the ignition of the tractor and the pickup also. I noticed this and
I said," Grandpa, you left the keys in the igniton of the car, someone could
sneak out here at night and steal the car." I will never forget what he
said..........
He said, " thats OK, someone might need the car more than I do." He was not
hung up on material things at all and it did not bother him in the least
that some stranger could sneak out there at night and steal the car or
anything else in the garage for that matter. I think that's why I always
thought it felt just a little bit better to give than to receive during the
holiday season.
Yours Truly,
Swissriegel

''THIS IS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT"
*The Meaning of Christmas
Far away in Bethlehem, a Baby Boy was born;
Born with neither riches nor with fame,
Yet Wise Men came from all around to bring to Him their gifts,
And peace was felt by all who heard His name.
Angels watched Him as He slept, and gently rocked His bed;
Their voices singing softly in His ear;
His Mother and His Father both gave thanks to God above
For the greatest gift of all, their Son, so dear
They knew His life upon this earth would not be filled with wealth,
They also knew He would encounter strife;
But most of all, they knew that He would be a loving Child,
And teach the love of God throughout His life.
At Christmas, as we celebrate this Birth of Jesus Christ,
Let's keep in mind the truth of Christmas Day;
For it's not the Christmas wrappings, nor the gifts that lie within,
But our gift of love to others in every way...
God Bless,Love Auntie Fran /Fran

Our addition
God for the wonderful things he has blessed us with.
Melissa is recovering nicely and she is getting as much sleep as a new Mom can.
Megan, Colby and Bailey are thinking it is pretty cool to have someone new around. They are all wanting to take Grace to Share day at school
As for me, I am starting to sleep through the night. Thank God for a wonderful wife! I am still fighting my flu/cold. Yes, I have been sick for most of Grace's life. I am starting to feel better.
Look forward to seeing you all soon. Have a safe and family filled Thanksgiving
With all our love

From the LBC
Auntie Marge, it sure would be nice if that girl who used to post all the Scheuber Special Days could find it in her busy freshman schedule to continue, dont'cha think? I'll see what I can do about that. Wow, nice goin' Ted. I had no idea about the cell phone thing.
Who's doing what for Thanksgiving??
We're hosting Grandma, Grandpa, Mike, Ashlee, McKenzee, my cousin Thomas (the Marine) his girlfriend and I'm sure a gang of last minute assorted Marine buddies. A quick side note, I was looking back at last year's post around this time. Recall Alec the Marine who missed his mates in Iraq? Well, Alec went back and he was injured. Not badly, but he has since returned to action and is still in Iraq. Ya might mention him in your Thanksgiving prayers.
It's prime rib in Long Beach. Venus' family will be in next week for traditional bird.
The girls are doing well. Lauren's enjoying being a bigshot 6th grader, and still playing soccer like a mad-woman. Erin loves high school. Hard for me to write that.
Best wishes to you all a bit early! I'm pretty sure I'll be knee deep in assorted pie filling, meat juice, and wine by the time I think about writing next week.
Enjoy all!
Geoff

Misc.
Sorry about the double Halloween entry-one minute apart. Not sure how that happened--a double click??? Must tell a funny incident: Checking the phone messages after golfing on Sunday, I heard the following: (hill billy accent) " Hey thar, heard that Sun Valley farms there may be hirin up some egg gatherers. Was givun this number to talk to a guy named John. I shore need a job. Please call back at this here number." (Guess this character didn't know that Sun Valley farms no longer exists.) Since John was putting away the clubs, I put it back in my mind to tell him later. After listening to the other messages, the phone rang. It was our friend Jack Mettler from Indiana. He proceeded to tell me that my name was listed in the Huntington paper for unclaimed money. Wow! Was I surprised. He told me the website to go to find out how to get the money. It was money from an old insurance policy that my dad had taken out in 1958. He then mentioned that Steve & Shirrell, (Steve having been John's former manager of the chicken ranches in Huntington )was heading for California and would be looking for us. Then the strange phone message came to light. It was Steve ! Needless to say, they did find us and spent Tuesday with us before heading back to San Francisco on Friday. They had been at a real estate convention. Steve & his brothers have one of the most successful real esate companies in Huntington County. He's come a long way from the chicken farm. It was so good to see them again. Tomorrow I'm heading out to the California State Library to do research. Then on to Rocklin where I will gladly spend a week with the grandgirls while Heidi and Ted head for a vacation in New York to tour the Big Apple. But first, we must celebrate Sidney's 5th birthday at a Bounceopolis Party on Saturday. Do grandparents bounce well? We'll see. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIDNEY!! GRANDMA MARGE WAITING TO HEAR ABOUT THE SCHEUBER TRIPS---ERNIE & MARYJANE & LEO & MARGE NEED SOME MORE EXCITING SCHEUBER NEWS |
